I'm a novice when it comes to skiing and completely ignorant when it comes to gear. I've only rented gear a few times at resorts. Rather than waiting in lines at the resort, I decided to get my own gear for this season.
I read boots are the most important thing since you're on your feet all day, so I started there. The gentleman assisting me was very thorough... in all, it took about 1.5 hours making sure I was sized with the correct boot--I also opted to get aftermarket footbeds as well--which he also heat formed to my feet. He didn't tell me I should purchase the less expensive softer beginner boots or slightly more expensive stiffer intermediate boots. He pointed out the pros and cons of each and let me choose. I wanted something to grow into and went with the intermediate boots. When it came to the skis, the same service was provided. A very thorough process which I greatly appreciated.
I debated on hitting REI during their 20% off Labor Day sale to get ski boots, but most of my research suggested to hit a legit ski specialty shop. Given the amount of time just to get a boot fitted, I'm confident to say specialty shop like Ski Haus is the way to go. It's not like buying sneakers--boot fitting was very meticulous. Plus, my research suggested a specialty shop would have more knowledge and options.
It was a great experience and highly recommend them. If you're a novice like me, I'm certain you'll get exactly what you need to hit the slopes! If you're more advanced, they have a racing room and advanced gear, but I can't really comment on that. Give me a few years to get better and then maybe (hopefully) I can give a...
Read moreAfter 10 years, I decided it was time for some new skis and boots. Previously I got my skis from a typical sports outfitter. The experience I had from Ski Haus was a world of difference! Janusz assisted me in selecting boots. He was incredibly knowledgeable in bootfitting- he asked me about my skiing history and what kind of terrain I ski. He took my measurements and had me try on many different pairs of boots until I found the right pair.
I didn't purchase skis from here since they did not have the exact model I was looking for, but I also brought them here to get the bindings mounted. I accidentally purchased incorrect bindings that did not fit the width of my ski. Arthur assisted me in choosing a pair of bindings that would suit me well. Again, very knowledgeable about skiing and the products they have in shop. Arthur also was able to give me an additional discount for mounting the bindings since I purchased both bindings and boots from Ski Haus.
Overall, Ski Haus provides impeccable customer service. I've been skiing for a very long time and I can tell how knowledgeable they are when it comes to skiing. I would highly reccomend this shop for your...
Read moreGood assortment of merchandise and that's about it. We arrived at 6.30pm knowing stories closing at 7pm. We are on the market for entire setup for me and my wife. Upon entering the store found to store workers rumbling around cashier's desk. I've approached them asking for advice on new setup and I was immediately informed that we came in at wrong time. Any question afterwards- it was like forcing an answer from their mouth. I'm not expected to treat us like Kings or stay longer to accommodate us. If your business states being open till 7pm, then if you care you would serve with best intentions till closing and schudule follow up visit other day to finish fitting and sale.
Highly unwelcoming experience, felt like they were giving us a favor for allowing us to shop.
Needles to say me and my wife will go to Viking ski shop in Barrington to give them our business and spend upwards of $3k in equipment were they treat you with familly...
