This is a review and cautionary tale of the consignment process.
I dropped off a few items in August 2024. I have consigned with other shops for both clothing and equine tack and have had 100% positive experiences. I decided to try something new and support this cute local shop in York. After not hearing from the shop for quite some time, I reached out at the end of January 2025 requesting to pick up my remaining items as it had been 6 months. In that time, I had had success reselling other items on different platforms.
I was informed that my remaining items had been stored since August and had not been put out yet. I was told that the consignment process begins only when items are put out on the floor. I ended up picking up my items, but was charged a substantial fee for picking them up "early." I was told that the fee was due to marketing the items, but if the items were being stored and the consignment process hadn't started yet, then I'm not sure what kind of marketing was taking place. If we are waiting for spring/summer to come around again, that would be approximately 9 months from when I dropped off my items. Perhaps I should have asked more questions, but it didn't occur to me that my items would be stored for that long.
My interactions with the shop owner were also off-putting to me. I was directed back to the contract, which does state that the consignment time is 60 days and that it starts from when items are put out on the floor, but I didn't realize that the shop could wait the better part of year before listing items and would charge me for picking up items after nearly 6 months. The shop owner was quick to place blame on me, and I accept some, but if you're looking to build relationships in the community this, in my opinion, is not the best business practice. I didn't feel good about my interaction.
If you decide to consign with this shop, I would recommend asking for the specific date range that the consignment process will start with each of your items so you have more clarity than I did. In addition, I found the payout rate to be minimal with the items that did sell compared with other shops/platforms. This did contribute to my initial inquiry about retrieving my items after nearly half a year. If you don't mind doing a little leg work, sites like Poshmark are very user friendly, have a higher payout rate, helpful customer service, and allow you to sell any item, regardless of seasonality, as buyers live in different climates all over the country.
I wanted to include this review to help other consigners to be well-informed so they can ask the right questions and make the best decision to meet their needs. Unfortunately, this shop is not one that I will be frequenting...
Read moreI absolutely love this store! Alex is amazing and really, truly knows her stuff! They are also very honest, which can be rare in retail. Case in point, sometimes I'll see cute items on her Instagram stories, and ask about how she thinks the item will fit me (I'm a regular shopper so she's seen me in person). Alex is great at telling me if she thinks they would be too big, or too small, or fit just right. I really appreciate this honesty as it has stopped me from buying something that wouldn't fit correctly, which saves me money in the long run. Additionally, the selection of styles and sizes is amazing. Also, new items are always being added and rotated, so it's like finding new goodies all the time! Since finding this store, I've stopped buying from commercial chains, and exclusively shop at...
Read moreSuch a unique store! I find something cool every time I stop in! The owner, Alex, is very discerning with the pieces she consigns. The closing is always close to new. Incredible deals on amazing designers. There's shoes, jewelry, purses and all sorts of clothing.
I've also consigned here. The process is simple, you can schedule an appointment online and bring your items in. She provides a complete list of brands and items she will accept. If your items don't sell, she'll happily donate them for you. If your item sell, you'll get your check regularly.
If you're looking for glamorous, name brand items an extremely reasonable prices, stop in and check it out. Best part, you're supporting a...
