My experience with McHughâs was nothing short of a nightmare, and I feel itâs important to share my story to help others avoid a similar ordeal. Timeline of Issues: ⢠10/17/24: Purchased a used truck from McHughâs. ⢠10/18/24: Less than 100 miles later, the check engine light came on (P0087 code: low fuel rail pressure). ⢠10/19/24: Discovered numerous problems, including: o Overdue air and fuel filters. o Non-functioning TPMS sensors. o A leaking rear pinion seal. o One tire embedded with two different metal objects. o One tire would not hold air for more than 48 hours. o A speedometer off by 6 MPH. o Worn windshield wipers that barely worked. ⢠10/21/24 â 11/28/24: I returned the truck to McHughâs several times for them to repair the fuel system. Each time, they either misdiagnosed the issue, replaced the wrong parts, or outright failed to address the truckâs mechanical problems. What Went Wrong? Gross Misdiagnosis and Incompetence: McHughâs repeatedly failed to resolve the root issue: a failing high-pressure fuel pump contaminating the entire fuel system with metal shavings. After encountering so many problems, I reviewed the CarFax report again and noticed that two different dealers had serviced the truck back-to-back before McHughâs purchased it at auction. I contacted these dealers, and they confirmed their diagnosis: a failing high-pressure fuel pump and a contaminated fuel system. Despite this expert input, McHughâs ignored the warnings and instead performed superficial fixes, such as flushing the fuel tank. These ârepairsâ were completely ineffective. Unprofessional Customer Service: o The staff employs tactics that make you feel ashamed or unreasonable for pointing out issues, creating an environment where legitimate concerns are dismissed or minimized. o Staff interactions were frustrating. For example, an employee rudely confronted me about where I had parked the loaner vehicle. It was parked in a spot that was out of the way and had no markings indicating it was an inappropriate location. When I asked why he was being so rude, he told me to "take it up with management" if I had an issue with him. Despite informing management, no apology was given. o AJ, the salesperson, frequently provided vague or conflicting updates, while the General Manager, Tim Ryan, was defensive and unwilling to take accountability for selling a defective vehicle. Financial Loss: o I spent $4,628.01 on necessary repairs and maintenance (e.g., tires, wipers, filters, and more). While I understand that used vehicles can come with these types of issues and did not ask McHughâs to address them, these fixes will be relevant later in this review. o Despite paying fair market value (not auction prices) for the truck, I now face an additional $12,704 in repairs to make it functional. Lack of Integrity: McHughâs sold the truck âas-is,â but this does not justify selling a vehicle with severe, undisclosed mechanical issues. The truck was clearly not mechanically sound at the time of purchase, and their refusal to address the core problem speaks volumes about their business practices. Final Straw: After weeks of back-and-forth, McHughâs offered to take the truck back, refund my deposit, and pay off the loan. However, they refused to reimburse me for the money I had already invested in necessary repairs ($4,628.01, e.g., tires, wipers, filters, and more). I proposed a fair compromise: they cover the cost of the parts needed to fix the fuel system (excluding labor). They declined. Conclusion: I never imagined a dealership would sell me a truck requiring over $12,000 in repairs to be usable. If I had purchased the truck at an auction, this might have been expected. But from a dealership, itâs unacceptable. If youâre considering McHughâs, proceed with extreme caution: ⢠Insist on a 30-day warranty at minimum. (Donât pay extra for it) ⢠Get an independent inspection before purchase. ⢠Be prepared for unprofessional interactions and minimal accountability. I will never do business with...
Read moreWe have purchased 2 used vehicles from them and it was the worst experience! The first truck they sold us, the "service" department broke a bolt and instead of repairing and replacing they just glued the part together! Years later we saw a Jeep we liked, sold us on all the features etc. The speakers didn't work right (despite this huge sell on premium sound system) every time you hit a bump it would change left side, right side, silent. They refused to fix it stating it worked just fine! Then we had it in their "service" department multiple times (due to warranty) and they could never actually fix all the issues. It wasn't until they got a new guy in that someone actually looked at the vehicle! (That guys probably not staying long because he actually knew what he was doing). Tried to take it in on a previous occassion because it was stalling/losing power and because the computer did not throw a code they refused to even look at the jeep! The manager of the "service" depart told me their mechanics aren't really mechanics they're more computer techs. How is this even right? So, I guess they should rebrand their "service" department to the Geek Squad. Also I asked on numerous occasions for their check-list if their 180 point inspection they could never produce this either. Both vehicles we bought from them were awful start to finish. Even to the point of selling it back to them they can't write checks the same day, I guess the only literate individual must be off and only works 1 day a week or maybe only one person gets the brains at a time someone accidently took it home with them. I don't know. To the one service guy that actually did your job kudos, but get out! You're worth more than McHugh! Never Again! Go to Coughlin in Newark instead or anywhere else!
Picture is probably half of the service orders we had in about 2 years. Half the time, like our last time, we pick it up and the Geek Squad forgot to tighten things down and check engine went nuts and it's right back to the...
Read moreI wish I could give a 0 star rating! Bought my jeep compass trailhawk in January of 2022 and it was back at the dealership in May to have struts, CV axle, and sway bar links replaced. Then in March 2023 my jeep overheated so I took it to McHugh & they claimed it was the thermostat & replaced it. Within a week later it was back for the same issue (constantly overheating) occurring repeatedly. They claimed it was a water pump issue and replaced it. Within a week later it was back yet again for the SAME issue. They finally found the main reason to begin with that it was overheating was because there was an internal block in the engine. So they gave me the run around & had my jeep for 3 months. I finally went back to pick it up & I got on the highway and it stalled and my dash was all lit up! Now last week, I took it in for a knocking noise in the rear & delayed acceleration issue. They called me and claimed they drove it & nothing was wrong with it & they would replace the sway bar links in the rear. They proceeded to tell me that I should do some maintenance on my jeep that would amount to over $800 out of pocket. I went to pick it up while I waited for parts & got on the highway and my check engine light and my automatic start/stop started flashing & my car started sputtering. I called McHugh & the service department claimed that something forgot to be plugged back in so they asked me to take it back. I drove it back to the dealership & the teach told me that my car was âgoing to run crappyâ until my spark plugs got replaced even though a few hours before that when I took it in I didnât have any of those issues, Now my coil packs all the sudden need...
