Unless you have just stepped off your mega yacht don’t bother with this restaurant! My wife and I have been vacationing in Antigua for three weeks and were looking forward to trying Pillars at Nelson Dockyard. It’s was about 3PM on a Wednesday and it was not busy at all. First problem encountered was standing at the please wait to be seated podium for 5 minutes without any acknowledgment. Finally a gentleman who works at the hotel greeted us and said just go and sit down and a waitress will be with you shortly. After sitting down a waitress gave us a drink & food menu and walked away to never come back. Meanwhile three different tables of guests were seated , welcomed and given glasses of water. It impotent to note that one table came off a skiff from their sailboat and the other two were part of yacht crews. After nearly 30 minutes the hostess finally came to the table and asked us for our order. My wife wanted a Chardonnay which was only by the bottle which was absolutely not a problem for us. The hostess responded with a very condescending attitude that “ you do realize that’s only by the bottle “ comment. Then to top it off the food was brought out and we still had to wait another 5 minutes for the wine and mixed drink. My wife and I have traveled all over the world and can’t remember a time when we were treated like such trash! Apparently our money is not as...
Read moreVery disappointing!! The Pilars restaurant at the Admiral’s Inn in Nelson’s Dockland has such a fantastic location and a table on the waters edge could definitely be something special. The staff are super friendly and provide a service with lots of big smiles, however that’s where all that is good stops! It’s such a shame as this establishment with its enviable location, and historic atmosphere could be something really very special, however, the table accessories, chunky glassware/ crockery, old stuffy plastic menus covers really lacks finesse. A trip to Catherine’s Cafe, just down the road would certainly highlight this and if you have an interest in fine food Pillars is going to be very disappointing. Yes the food is severely lacking with the box standard island fodder being on offer, but is certainly not cheap and one couldn’t help but feel that it could so easily be so much better. Visit for a coffee or a cocktail, but do yourselves a favour and avoid eating the food...
Read moreThe space is nice both indoor and out. The service is lovely. The food (Christmas dinner) was not great. It was 3 kinds of meat and hardly any vegetables at all. The chicken tasted like chemicals - very strange. There was no vegetarian option for said dinner. (Though they did provide a random veggie risotto for the same day, not sure who wants a risotto at Christmas?? Felt like a hate-crime against vegetarians that being the only option. Everyone knows risotto for vegetarians is culinary faux pas 😅) The general produce on the island sadly isn’t great, so I’m always very understanding of the restaurants in Antigua - though hoped Pillars could have pulled something out the bag! As mentioned, Service is great and it’s still a good...
