A really nice, trendy bar. From the moment you arrive, the place looks cool with its minimal lighting, both indoor and outdoor spaces, and cocktail-style bar.
However, my food was awful! As a vegetarian, I know I have to manage my expectations in most restaurants, especially in Argentina given its love of asados, but I have to say the selection was poor for me.
The original option I wanted was unavailable (fine, this happens), so this cabbage dish was recommended by the staff (see photo).
However, I wish it wasn’t. As you can see, it’s just a whole plate of a mound of cabbage, which is already a bit of a boring veg. They added a few mushrooms (and possibly onions), and a very meek amount of cheese ‘sauce’. So, a super basic dish yet terribly unbalanced. I mean, who wants to eat a huge portion of 90% cabbage?
By the 5th bite I was bored with it, but tried to keep going as I hate wasting food. I am a big guy with a big appetite, but after eating 25% I couldn’t continue.
I told the waitress, who was very friendly throughout. She spoke to the kitchen but they told me that that is how the dish is. I said this wasn’t good enough as it was a pretty terrible effort at a veggie dish, and a bit of an insult. Not to mention, its cost around £20, which was more than my friend’s beef steak!? 🤦♂️🤯
Eventually, I got 10% knocked off and a small glass of cold house 🍷, which was pretty awful too 😬
Anyway, a great-looking locale and friendly staff (bar the kitchen), but they absolutely need to work on their (veggie) menu…or at least, ditch...
Read moreThe best meal so far in Buenos Aires at Andante!! Our waitress Stephanie was beyond fabulous. She knew every menu item and ingredient, her wine choice the Cabernet Franc was amazing. The best service we have had in along time. Now let's talk food. We were in the mood for meat tonight and started with the tartare! Perfectly seasoned served with housemade breads. We had beef cheeks served with cauliflower puree, demi, and what believe was confit potatoes in beautiful scallop looking rounds. The beef was tender and fell apart, absolutely mouth watering. We also tried the steak, as I like my steak rare we let the Chef choose the cut. Which was a leaner ribeye perfectly caramelized on the outside and seasoned agian to perfection. A steak knife was not needed to cut through it it was so tender. As an Canadian Alberta girl I like my beef and this was exceptional! It is a beautiful restaurant with two levels and a enclosed patio. It was beyond our expectations. My husband and I are both Chef and I cannot recommend Andante more to go to. Thank you Stephanie and your staff we had a fabulous evening and plan to come back...
Read moreI hate to do it but this is truly a 1 star if not lower rating. I don’t understand how they’re rated over 4.5.
Lets go from the beginning seated in a great spot, they had live music and all is well. Little did I know that the experience peaked at that moment. It took 25 mins before anyone spoke to us, we ordered cocktails, and 3 appetizers (alitas, shrimp, arancinettis). The cocktail was super unbalanced, mostly just sugar with a salted rim. It’s took over 1 hour to get our 3 small plates.
The arancinetts, and shrimp were okay, very underwhelming for the hype of this place. The chicken came out cold which I thought maybe it was because they are smothered in sauce which I can understand. The flavor was decent, I ate 2. The 3rd wing was completely raw, one bite and panic set in. How does this happen? I called the waiter over and he seemed to care less. He asked if I’d like for him to take that single wing back to reheat it. I said no, he then attempted to bring more wings out which in kindly declined.
The highlight was the waiter gracing us with the pleasure of him comping the wings. All in all...
