Cat cafe Buenos Aires Abasto — Restaurant in Autonomous City of Buenos Aires

I’ve visited this cat café twice, once last year and once this year. While the photos of me there show me looking very happy (and how could you not, surrounded by cats?), my feelings about the experience are mixed. I genuinely appreciate that they accommodate dietary preferences with their alfajores and that they give the cats a break in the middle of the day. The cat aprons are a fun touch, and the staff takes excellent photos.

That said, there are aspects of the environment that raise concerns for me. The cats are extremely food-motivated and show little interest in you unless you’re feeding them. Perhaps this is a result of their training through positive reinforcement, but it does make you wonder.

My most recent visit also ended on a sour note. My younger brother was interested in one of their bookbags, but we didn’t have enough cash to purchase it at the time. The staff offered to hold it for us, and while my mom was willing to leave a deposit, they assured us it wasn’t necessary. We told them we’d likely return the following week to buy it. I followed up on Instagram to confirm we still wanted it and would come by to pick it up, but they responded saying they had already sold it, adding, "Que pena que no la señaron!!!" Fui a este lugar con mi pareja y la verdad que lo recomiendo mucho por las siguientes razones: A) Una vez que entras al cat café te explican que algunos gatitos están en adopción y que la entrada que pagas (tu reserva) ayuda a contribuir con gatitos necesitados o para comprarle la comida a los michis. También se puede observar en Instagram como ayudan con otros refugios gatunos. B) Otra cosa que ame del lugar es que antes de interactuar con los gatos te enseñan que debes respetar ciertas reglas para poder convivir con ellos adecuadamente durante esa hora y media que estás adentro. Esto nos permite confirmar que realmente se preocupan por los gatos. Algunas de las reglas que tienen que respetar son las siguientes: no deben sacarle fotos con flash y tampoco deben invadir su espacio ya que si el gato se interesa se va a acercar solito. C) Se nota que los gatos están bien cuidados y se puede observar que según su comportamiento estos animales definitivamente NO son explotados comercialmente. De hecho se sienten cómodos en ese lugar y se los ve felices 🥰. (Lo destacó porque para mí esto es algo fundamental) D) El personal del cat café es muy amable, tanto en redes como presencialmente en el lugar. En redes una vez que responden tu mensaje intentan darte toda la información posible del cat café y luego te dicen que debes hacer para reservar. Una vez que reservaste ya está, te queda esperar que llegue la fecha para ir al lugar. Si no responden enseguida, tranqui que solo una persona está encargada de las redes y piensen que a ellas les llegan millones de mensajes por día, así que paciencia. Ahora, cuando ya estás en el cat café, el personal te acompaña en tu estadía para comentarte la historia y el nombre de cada gatito que se encuentra en el lugar y además te comentan la historia de porque decidieron empezar con el cat café. Luego te dan una mini cartita para que decidas que café o jugo tomar. Recuerden que la bebida irá acompañada de un alfajor y que no son una cafetería o pastelería sino que es un lugar especial en dónde lo importante es la recaudación de fondos, la interacción con los michis y vivir una experiencia única. E) El lugar es apto para personas que tienen sensibilidad auditiva. Ponen música instrumental de fondo pero es más que nada un sonido relajante que se escucha muy bajito (así que no aturde para nada). Además, cabe destacar que al ser un lugar chiquito no entran tantas personas, como máximo entrarían 6. Así que también es apto para aquellas personas que intentan evitar el tumulto de gente. F) Tienen una michitienda dentro del lugar para comprar cositas de gatitos. Ahí van a encontrarse con alfombras, medias, cuadernos, stickers, curitas, muñecos, etc. ¡Ame esa tienda! Todo lo que se puedan imaginar de gatitos está ahí. G) En las redes tienen toda la información que necesitan de este lugar: dónde se ubica, como reservar, cuánto sale la reserva, etc.

En conclusión, la experiencia fue bellísima. Las personas que trabajan son un amor, los michis son cariñosos (algunos son más extrovertidos que otros 🤭) y el espacio que tienen es hermoso, me sentí en un mundo gatuno por un momento. Lo que hacen en el cat café es hermoso, admiro...

My partner and I are cat cafe enthusiasts, traveling the US to see several. When I searched ‘cat cafe’ this morning while in BA this is the first one to come up and I’m so glad it did! We easily reserved a spot through their Instagram. Upon arrival we were let in, cleaned our hands, and got to know the names of all the cats. Both ladies were so kind and attentive, these are their cats that they know and love, so they are very passionate about this! We put on aprons and got to feed all the cats chicken several times. There was a small show by cat ‘Princess’, a fun time dragging ‘PiPi’ around in his car, and awesome photo opportunities with all the cute cats! These cats are not for adoption like a typical cat cafe, but all the proceeds from the Michi shop go to cats in need. We got to choose some complimentary coffee, and the best alfajor I’ve had yet! We had a full hour of fun for only $8,000 pesos each in cash. I...
