I dropped by for the first time for a weekday lunch. Overall, a pretty good spot with a lot of potential but also some inconsistencies, I'll note in detail below.
Service - admittedly I look like a tourist, especially during lunch when locals are coming in during lunch break, in which case they may offer a different menu explanation and options available for folks on a shorter time frame. I would suggest making this consistent for every guest, tourist or not, I could have benefitted from this as I was also coming in between work meetings and needed something faster.
Food - a lot of good flavors and options, interestingly kind of a theme of slightly undercooked food, not necessarily in a bad way but certainly with room for improvement. For reference, I do enjoy raw seasfood sushi etc and generally have my steaks prepared med-rare to med.
Shrimp, came out with a mushy consistency, I think a little more cooking would have imparted more flavor and a firmer consistency would have made them better.
Sausage, probably the best out of the 3 plates I had, no complaints but maybe slightly undercooked, and a stronger crust would have added a nice texture and flavor to the sausage.
Empanadas, also pretty good but slightly on the doughy side for texture.
Wine - I generally prefer higher end wines with some age. The options were a little bit limited from that perspective. One suggestion for the owners, at least add the vintage in the menu along with the price but based on the pricing, I would expect most of their wines are in the 1-3yr old range. That may be a good fit depending on what your...
Read moreThis restaurant is in a nice location. We were near the Florida shopping area and did a Google search for nearby restaurants. Huacho came up with very high reviews so we decided to give it a try. When we followed the directions we almost walked past it. It's very nondescript on the outside. And even after approaching the door we thought they were closed. So, don't be discouraged when you approach. I'll put some pictures of the outside. After entering we got a seat right away, it was about 5:30pm. The menu had many delicious sounding choices so we took our time deciding. Our waiter spoke English and was very friendly. We decided on the steak tenderloin and the beef ribs. We added a grilled sweet potato with Bleu cheese and a grilled avocado salad. The food arrived at your table sizzling on cast iron plates. The meats were cooked perfectly and were exceptionally tender. We enjoyed everything and left completely full, no room for desert. My wife and I recommend Huacho if you are in the area. It was our first dinner on our trip to Buenos Aires, so I can't comment on the prices. The entrees were around...
Read moreThe restaurant drew my attention because of the high rating. I’ll start of that the interior is cozy and staff friendly and personal. We were told the special of the day - tomahawk steak - would be plenty for 3 adults and a 10 year old. Unfortunately the steak turned out not to be enough by far also because a large part (at least a third was pure fat). I have prepared tomahawk steak at home a few times taking meat out of a higher end supermarket but they never have a lot of fat, on the contrary the meat normally is one of the best pieces of beef you can get. After a complaint of mine we were offered a free compensation of additional beef steak which was satisfying and saved the place from a 2 star rating.
Please guys take good care of the meat quality and portions!
Salad and wine were good, not...
