Restaurante Manolo — Restaurant in Autonomous City of Buenos Aires

This is not a Michelin-starred restaurant - what it is, is an excellent family, local diner (so to speak). I really enjoyed it and have been back a few times when I'm in the area. The food is good quality 'honest-to-God' Argentine food (i.e. simple, everyman's fare) for the local community. I enjoyed the vegetarian options (grilled vegetables were delicious, etc), so appreciate that. I really like the atmosphere, including with the families hanging out together having supper on a weekday night, etc, etc. And the staff are superb also - and they take a real pride in their food and service - little touches, for example, in the way they cut-up a dish to be shared among the family, which they do with care and precision, making it almost ceremonial. I was anxious to try this traditional Argentine eatery because, having once lived nearby, I saw that it was almost always packed, even on weeknights. Unfortunately for me and my companion, this was a case of the crowd not knowing as much as we thought they did. My friend had half a kilo of bife de chorizo, and although it was cooked to order medium rare, not a common thing in Buenos Aires, somehow Manolo's kitchen managed to turn out tough one of the more tender Argentine cuts.
