Mash British Curry House — Restaurant in Autonomous City of Buenos Aires

Wow......where do I start? I normally don't leave reviews but this place is almost comically awkward. I came here based on the good reviews and after two years of living in Delhi, I would say I am a decent judge of what is good Indian food and this isn't it. To start, the menu is extremely limited, especially with vegetarian options. I ended up ordering the korma because there was nothing else to get. It barely had any taste. The Naan served with it was better than any other place I have been in Argentina but that isn't saying much.

The worst part about it is the service. They keep the door locked and when I arrived at 8:10, I was let in by a grumbly man who declared that he needed the table back at 9:30. I ordered my food and a beer and it was brought to me. While I ate, the waiter never came back to check on me and when I finished, my dirty plates were never cleared. While I was waiting for my food, the waiter would grumble every time someone tried to come in the door and complain if they didn't have a reservation. (There is nowhere that says you need one).

There is NOTHING about this place that warrants that level of pretension. I looked back at reviews while I was there and noticed another woman made similar comments and got a really nasty response back. I spent three months in Argentina/Uruguay and never saw anything quite as socially...

MASH is undeniably one of the finest curry joints in all of Argentina, situated in the heart of San Telmo. The curries are absolutely amazing and stand out as must-try items on the menu, as they are simply to die for. It is clear that the owners take their restaurant seriously, as they even travel to the UK to bring back the right spices, ensuring that the flavors are authentic and of the highest quality. The flatbread is a standout item as well, and the food is exquisitely prepared with a superb blend of spices and herbs that tantalize the taste buds. The proprietors' dedication to their establishment is evident in the attention to detail in the cozy, artistically decorated space, complete with antique furnishings. The ambiance is nothing short of remarkable, on par with the restaurant's excellent cuisine, resulting in an unparalleled dining experience. I read a lot of reviews about how the owners are rude or that the food takes its time to arrive at the table, or that they lock their doors. The reality is that good things are worth the wait, and one must respect the establishment and its policies, and if one can't do that, they're free to pursue their own restaurant...

The food here was genuinely enjoyable and left me thoroughly satisfied. However, it’s important to set the right expectations — while the dishes are inspired by Indian cuisine, they are distinctly British-Indian in style. Gus was very transparent about this, and I appreciated the clarity.

Judging from that perspective, the experience was absolutely spot-on. The flavors are crafted to suit the British palate, and they do so remarkably well. You really can’t fault it for not being “authentically Indian” — it’s not trying to be, and that’s precisely what makes it work.

What truly elevated the experience was the generous portion sizes, especially given the reasonable pricing. It was excellent value for money, making the meal all the more satisfying.
