This is a relatively quiet and unassuming Indonesian eatery located conveniently along North Terrace, near the busy Rundle Mall shopping area.

As with most patrons, I ordered a nasi campur and decided on the chicken (you get to choose which dish/topping that you prefer, the other option being beef rendang). I chose to sit upstairs which had a few tables and it was fairly quiet. Although I believe the food is pre-prepared, it took a while before it arrived at my table, not that it was cold. The chicken was crispy and juicy and the other accompanying dishes (sambal, fried cabbage, etc.) were alright. Probably the only thing which I thought could be improved was the yellow rice, which was thought was softer than it should be, though it was not exactly soggy. Portions are decent for the price.

As with the warongs in Indonesia, you get Indonesian pop songs blaring on the speakers as you dine, which gives an Indo vibe to the place.

Would I return to have a meal...

We’ve officially been to Abang Abang Indonesian Restaurant twice in one week, and the food was so good, we simply couldn’t stay away! If you’re looking for authentic Indonesian cuisine that ticks all the boxes, this is the place to go. Every mouthful was a wonderful reminder of home—rich, full of flavour, and packed with traditional Indonesian tastes. It’s like taking a street-food trip to Indonesia, right here in Adelaide!

The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, the service is excellent, and the food... well, we’re already planning our third visit! Whether you’re local or just visiting, Abang Abang is the perfect spot for anyone wanting to enjoy genuine Indonesian comfort food. If you’re craving a taste of home-cooked Indonesian dishes with that warm, familiar flavour, don’t hesitate—pop by and treat yourself to some seriously delicious meals! Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic and honest...

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this establishment. My partner ordered a "rice noodle" dish, but what was served was instant noodles with an egg on the side—completely misleading and absolutely not worth $14. I ordered a rice-based dish with extras, but the extras were entirely forgotten. On top of that, we waited over an hour for our food, which is unacceptable given the lackluster quality of what we received.

The service was subpar, the food did not match the descriptions on the menu, and the overall experience fell far short of the hype surrounding this place. For the price and the time we spent waiting, we expected much better. This was a truly disappointing visit, and I cannot recommend this restaurant based on the poor service and underwhelming...

Another Indonesian eatery opening up in Adelaide is a win in my opinion. My friend live next door to this place and the first time they opened we decided to try them and we’ve been back there ever since ❣️ I love their rice bowls and topping choices, their sambal is so so GOOD 😋 and also generous portion wise. Their late night snack selection is also a group favorite! specifically the chocolate and cheese toastie as well the choices of shaved ice. Their indomie with chicken katsu is really good too (indomie portion is a lot dw). Overall a good place to try Indonesian food with lovely service as well 💯 p.s. sorry for the amount of pictures attached!! wanted to show everything i’ve tried since they opened lol

Went here for lunch today 13/08/2025 and had a great experience. The owner, who also serves customers, was very friendly and welcoming. Food came out quickly as I ordered the Nasi Campur combo and the rice was outstanding, full of flavour and aroma. The rest of the sides were all good as well. Location-wise, it’s right in the city with easy access from Rundle Mall, but parking can be tricky as there’s none on-site. The restaurant itself isn’t very spacious, with just a few small tables, but it has a cosy vibe. Sadly, their Sunday unlimited buffet is no longer available. Good service, good food, Halal certified. I wish they expand to larger spacious restaurant. Definitely worth a try, I recommend it!
