Nanyang Cafe, a traditional Malay restaurant, offers a variety of classic dishes that, while decent, fall short of their potential. Located in a bustling area, the cafe draws a steady crowd, which may contribute to its somewhat rushed culinary execution. One of the dishes I tried was the Char Ho fun. While it had a good assortment of ingredients and was reasonably tasty, it lacked the distinctive "wok hei" flavor that comes from stir-frying at high heat for a sufficient amount of time. The vegetables and meat could have benefited from a slightly longer cooking process to develop that characteristic smoky, charred aroma. The hurried preparation, likely due to the busy nature of the cafe, left the dish feeling somewhat flat. The Hainan chicken rice, a staple in many Southeast Asian cuisines, also missed the mark. The chicken was overcooked, which affected its texture and overall flavor. Ideally, Hainan chicken should be tender and juicy, but this version was quite disappointing. The accompanying rice and sauces were acceptable, but not enough to elevate the dish to the level of others I've enjoyed elsewhere. In general, Nanyang Cafe delivers an "alright" dining experience. The food is passable and fills a need for traditional Malay cuisine, but it lacks the finesse and depth that can be found in better-executed versions of the same dishes. With a bit more attention to cooking techniques and timing, the dishes could improve significantly. For now, it remains a decent option if you're in the area and craving Malay food, but there are definitely better options available if you're willing to venture a...

The Worst experience we had ever came across at the Adelaide’s restaurant. First dine in experience but will never go back. Not a kid friendly restaurant for people with prams or need special care. Not commenting on the foods as we never tried it but was shock when we get shouted on the face by their rudest customer saying we were taking his table. I went there for lunch with my sister and our 4 children today just before lunch time. We were managed to get a table just outside the shop( the only spot that can fit our 2 prams) while my brother in law is queuing up for food ordering. The majority seating area are upstairs without wheelchairs access. A man approached and said we took his table and asked if we had placed our order. We told him my brother is placing it now and he said we can’t sit there as that was his table. A staff was standing next to him and she offered a new table to him but he refused. Everyone was looking and it make us feel so embarrassing so we had decided to leave. Very very shocking and disappointed with the outcomes with such a good review restaurant. Management and policy definitely need a review. It definitely ruin our day especially my family is traveling down from interstate for holiday. A very poor customer experience setting their own special ‘rule’and let their customers take thing as granted!! For first time diner with elderly or young children, please consider the suitability before you...

I’ve been a regular at Nanyang Cafe for a while now. The food is consistently good—especially the Hainanese chicken rice and char kway teow. The overall dining experience has always been satisfying.

However, today’s lunch visit during my work break was a bit frustrating. The place was packed, and a ticket system was introduced to manage the crowd. I was near the front of the queue when a male staff member asked how many people I had. I said it was just me dining in, and he told me to go straight to the counter to order. I asked a couple of times if I still needed to take a number, but he didn’t seem to understand.

When I got to the counter, the female staff told me I had to take a ticket first. I explained that the male staff had told me to come over, but she still asked me to get a number. So I went back again. Then finally she told me it was fine—I could sit outside.

The process was confusing and a bit disorganized. It would be better if staff could confirm the system clearly with customers, especially during peak hours, to avoid unnecessary waiting or people being skipped in the queue.

That said, the food is still worth recommending. Just hope the service flow...

Getting busy at around 12pm lunch time. Recommend to come a bit early. 1) hainan chicken rice: feel like the serving size is a bit bigger compared to other place. love the tender chicken in soy sauce. ($10.5) 2) roast duck & bbq pork on tossed noodles: a lot of noodles, thinly sliced roast duck. bbq pork has a hint of sweetness. They both have fat and white meat. The flavor of tossed noodles is ok ($11.5) 3) wonton soup: soup is light, not too salty. wonton is ok, not too salty as well. ($10.5) 4) char hor fun: a popular dish at this place. Basically stir fried rice noodles in egg soup. soup is KINDA salty to my taste, but the rice noodles balance it really well ($12.5) 5) chicken laksa: has bean sprouts, noodles, fried tofu and chicken. i dont feel like the chicken is freshly made, it has skin and some fat in it. first time eating laksa and the broth makes me fall in love ($10.5) -> counter staff was nice, CASH only restaurant

I’m singaporean so trust me when I say that this char kuey teow is pretty authentic!! Flavours are balanced and you get a good amount of sinful pork lard dispersed pretty evenly throughout. It’s more savoury than what you get in Singapore (it’s usually sweetish but this one is almost not at all sweet - maybe more closely resembling the Malaysian rendition) but there is good wok hei (if you’re passionate about Asian food, you should know what this is - wok hei basically refers to the charred flavour that results from contact with the fire when a dish is fried in a wok). The soya bean milk with grass jelly is pretty authentic too (the price is not LOL).
