Will never stay at this hotel again. Their smug attitude at reception when they take $100 from you for a ‘bond’ (my room was already paid in full). Most hotels take your credit card and put say a 5 cents opening bond so if you use room facilities they can charge the card. Fair enough. However The Majestic Roof Garden Hotel, takes $100 from your account and do not give it back as readily as they access your account. Now if you’re rich in liquid cash, this probably doesn’t register as a hassle for you. However, I live in my military pension (I was in Adelaide for hospital out patient treatment) and taking that $100 left my account dry. Checked out on Monday, it’s now Thursday and my $100 has disappeared. According to the hotel they ‘don’t have my $100, it’s nowhere to be seen. They say ‘we don’t take your $100’, you don’t because on my bank statement it clearly states that I paid $100 to The Majestic Roof Garden Hotel, apparently according to management that is not true! How not true? I am down $100 because it doesn’t exist? Riddle me this? Why am I $100 poorer this Thursday. Did I make up that I paid $100 to The Majestic Roof Garden Hotel? (Also the Majestic Roof Garden wasn’t even open when I checked in). Closed? So much for the majestic roof garden experience. I call the hotel, they are great at gaslighting suckers like me who despite handing over $100 to the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel I am informed that I did not hand over $100 to them. Gee my bank account seems to disprove that confidence as my account is lacking in $100. So where is my $100? Their response, “we didn’t take your $100.00.” It’s like I’m imagining my loss of $100. It is such a spiteful hotel policy that you don’t know exists until you front up to the bank counter, sorry I meant hotel reception. They of course ‘understand’ the issue. They do? How do they as they just spent 35 minutes telling me that I did not pay The Majestic Roof Garden Hotel $100? So how and what are they understanding. On the same day that I checked in. A Japanese couple next to me checking g in where suddenly sprung with the $100 bond surprise and they both looked utterly confused. The hotel has taken their money for the room and suddenly like me the two hotel guests are told to hand over $100. They began the process of going through their paperwork and explained to the hotel bank teller that they have already paid. So the teller has to explain that they are taking their $100 but they are also ‘not’ taking their $100. Confusion abounded. Stuck at the front desk, room paid for and organised one has to grin and bear the mafia type payment otherwise forget your paid for room. The financial policies of huge organisations have over your bank account without any accountability is beyond decency. It takes advantage of the moment. Now after talking with management I am still short of my $100 that they say they don’t have but still charge me $4.75 on that non existing $100 for a packet of chips. So I said you have managed to secure your $4.75 from my imagined $100 so where is my change of $95.25? @You never gave us $100” Seriously if you have cash and good for you this means nothing. I get it! But when you are low on cash and the hotel takes $100 dollars and then tells you they don’t ‘take’ your $100 (despite the fact that they managed to get their $4.75 for a packet of chips from your non-existent $100) kind of makes my bank statement stating that the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel has my $100 is fake. I will never be a guest at this hotel again. Customers service...
Read moreMy flight landed on a Friday, and I was a little concerned about it being a Friday night. Adelaide can get a bit rowdy. It knows how to party.
When I arrived, the desk staff couldn't have possibly been more accommodating. They had me sorted out pretty fast. Communication was clear.
The building is well maintained and aesthetical pleasing. New carpets were being laid in the foyer when I arrived. Upkeep is good.
When I entered my room I was pleasantly surprised. It's was quite big and freshly furnished. Just having been on planes and in airports for 36 hours, the first thing I did was run a hot bath. It was apparent to me that the hot water is on demand, it didn't go cold half wah through filling the bath. It was fantastic.
when I got in bed, I was pleasantly surprised to find what felt like a brand new mattress. The only noise I heard all night was the slight ringing in my ears. The kind you get with the complete absence of sound. The occasional faint humming of the fridge, that was all I could hear. I couldn't even tell it was a Friday night with thousands of people partying just a few blocks away.
I slept from 3 pm all the way through to 11 am the next day. Woken only by the ladies going room to room filling the mini bars.
I was able to go for a walk in the botanical gardens, get some shopping in at Rundle Mall, and do my laundry all in the one day by foot. Everything is incredibly close and convenient, I was even able to walk to a gym and get in some mobility back in all of the joints locked up from the flight. The location is great.
Check out was a breeze, I'm now roaming the botanical gardens whilst waiting for my bus, storing my luggage in their baggage area. So that 1%er is very much appreciated.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. I didn't check out the whole building, but from my experience, I recommend this place. You will get a good sleep, and if yoj get bored it's from a lack of...
Read moreA solid stable over the years.
We've been staying at the Majestic Roof Garden hotel since about 2004 - whether for short overnight stays on the way back to Kangaroo island from conferences or teaching interstate, medium length stays for visits to the city or occasional week-to-ten day stays for things like Womadelaide and general gallivanting.
It's small, personal and the rooms are generally excellent (if you lime morn ing sun, go for the east side)....the suits are great and spacious (although watch out for those on level one as the glare from the spotlight on outside facade can be intrusive)
It's changed a little over the years - less views in 2020 than there were in 2004 on the roof top - the shadow from nearby skyscrapers makes afternoon picnics less fun in the winter months - but it's still a cracker of a place to stay - right in the middle of town, great little restaurant downstairs (Culshaws) - and loads of opportunities for eats and ents in nearby Rundle St.
Occasionally I try somewhere else - Oaks in Glenelg or North Terrace, the nearby Pullman, Mayfair on King William, Mantra on Frome, the Treasury or an apartment in North Adelaide - but it's always good to go back to the solid performance and friendly faces at the Majestic
Choice of valet or self-park, good room service menu and the staff are attentive, kind and discrete - huge shout outs to Derek and Samuel who have been beacons of excellence int he past year or so.
Only downside is that can get expensive (as do all Adelaide hotels) in mad-March....and the new TVs are designed for guests to use their own Netflix or other streaming accounts....I miss the in room movies showing new blockbusters ahead of screen, and must make a mental note to travel with laptop and HDMI connectors in figure so can stream from Apple TV as the new TVs are...
