we stayed in the executive king suite - 19th floor, for our 30th anniversary.
What was Awesome: the view - floor to ceiling windows looking right over the Adelaide Hills and city.
What was great: the hotel facilitated an early check in - from 3pm, to an impressive 1pm... very cool. The pool area also was quite impressive on the 10th floor and if the weather had of been better, this would have been awesome - what let it down a little was the very expensive drinks -$13 for a schooner of beer.
Car parking was only $15 overnight despite being advertised $25... a nice improvment
Breakfast was good and came with the room - a decent buffet and the smokey bacon was very nice. The drained, dried over cooked tomatoes not so much.
Dinner at Koomo was quite good - $85 a head was slightly dear but on the 10th floor was still a great setting, food was quite nice.
What was average: the hotel boasts an espresso machine in your room - but no milk frother and a tiny single serve milk; plus only 2 pods, plus these pods were Vittoria coffee - a very average coffee indeed - the machine at breakfast did a much better job.
What was below average: Half way through my shower, i noticed the soap dispenser was completely empty - even worse, when i let the concierge know the next morning, she did not say sorry, she replied "well you know we are open 24 hours a day, you could have rang for more" - what, whilst I was in the shower????
And speaking of showers, the pressure was extremely low - perhaps the lowest i've experienced - tipping th shower head upside down, the water did not even rise.... impossible to wash your hair which would have been nice after using the pool.
another ordinary point was that we reserved an ouotside table for dinner, but they said it was closed due to inclement weather - it had been a bit windy earlier, but was calm and still - i wondered if we couldn't go outside because they didn't want to turn the heaters on outside and serve us more easily inside with less staff???
1 last point that was poor was that we asked what time the bar closed as we were leaving dinner - 10pm is advertised and they reiterated this - we came back for a night cap at Luna at 9.30pm and the bar was shut already - the server cleaning up said "it's been very quiet so we shut it early" - i went to the restaurant to get a drink to bring back to the Luna and they said "we've called last drinks but i'll quickly serve you. I ordered 2 double-baileys, they could poor 1 and then the bottle was empty and she had to go to a storage area for 5 minutes to find another bottle - it all felt like they were penny-pinching and not what you'd expect from a leading hotel brand.
Also, on drinks, my wife likes a cider, they are very popular at the moment, but the venue had no ciders available to order.
Overall - it was quite good - a stunning hotel starting on the 10th floor with balcony dining, 10th floor pool, cracking asian restaurant, beautiful views and great location - just tidy up on the little things - stay open as advertised, fill up the soap dispenser, get better quality coffee and a decent amount of milk, have more than a glass of alcohol for each rink you serve, get some cider into the range and respond slightly better to feedback and you are...
Read moreThe location is excellent and the generous room provided a great view of NYE fireworks and was also welcomely uncluttered by the usual array of promotional material.
Unfortunately the AIRCON struggled to cope with the East facing room. Presumably that's the reason for daily SMS requests to keep the blackout curtains closed during the day. A pity given the lovely view.
The off-site carking was convenient and good - once the complexities of the hotel's parking pass had been mastered – but its’ management needs to do something about the constantly overflowing rubbish bins outside the lifts at entry level. Note that the number of hotel parking passes appears to be quite limited so get one early.
The two guests lifts with access above Level 10 were very slow and too small for the passenger volume on some occasions.
Breakfast was better than acceptable but nothing special. The Barista coffee was of inconsistent quality and only managed to match my order 2/4 times.
The room phone wasn't working on arrival but was fixed upon request the following day.
On arrival the bathroom consumables had not been replenished and the shower gel bulk dispenser was empty. During the first night the bedside alarm went off at 03:55am. Presumably it had been set by a previous guest and not reset by Housekeeping. Front Desk promised to fix the alarm the following day but failed to do so. That resulted in a second night of disrupted sleep. The following day both a receptionist and I were unable to determine how to cancel the alarm so he simply removed the integrated clock/speaker/charging station.
There was no pen in the room for the laundry list and the bag/list were not replaced after first use until requested.
One day I returned to the room at 3pm for a short nap and the room had not been serviced. No attempt was made to service the room later that day.
Overall, the Crown Plaza Adelaide is a definitely great place to stay but currently let down by a handful of relatively minor issues. Individually, each could be easily dismissed but collectively they point to a systemic policy problem. Whether that is limited to just one property, or is more widespread, is for IHG...
Read moreI have been an IHG member for over 10 years and stayed a many Crowne, Intercontinental and Holiday Inns in Australia and overseas. We arrived to celebrate our wedding anniversary (highlighted in our booking) knowing reception was on the 10th.
The ground floor was stark and empty with a concierge desk hidden around the corner. It was empty with a sign directing all enquiries to reception. I couldn't see a guest phone. We struggled with our luggage into the lift with others and stopped at two floors on the way up. We arrived at reception with three counters. One was empty. One had people checking in the last had a staff member on the phone. We were the only people waiting. It was about 4.30.
It took fifteen minutes from the time we arrived till the time we left reception. By the time we left there would have been 20 waiting to check in combined with the constant stream of people going from the pool area to the lifts. It was so noisy I couldn't hear our be heard by the receptionist. I was asked for my credit card. I explained it was on my phone. She replied "we don't have pay wave" I explained I don't have my credit card I want asked in my confirmation email to bring it. I also wasn't asked to have photo ID to check in.
We eventually received sore cards and the waited another 5 minutes fit one of the two lifts that go above the 10th floor.
We got to our room. A great view, very poorly planned. A lot of useless wasted space around the entrance area, a tea and coffee station with low shelves that make it difficult to juggle the coffee machine around to remove the water tank to fill it out. A nice sofa that you can sit in and admire the bed...out should face the window. Small bathroom - no bath robes . Not up to superior standard.
Went to the bar for a drink. Three people waiting two bar staff...It took 15 minutes AGAIN to get served. One bar person left an returned 5 minutes later and the other person was still serving the same two people...Not cocktails either.
Very poor. How long vCard would I have waited if they had 6 or 7...
