This is my go-to place whenever I am craving for a good pho. Consistency is the key here. You always know that you're in for a good feed when you come here.
I ordered my 3 usuals; combination pho, salt & pepper squid and an iced Vietnamese coffee. Vietnamese coffee is pretty standard and always delicious so I won't go into that.
The pho broth is superbly flavourful and I love that they give you a generous portion and selection of fresh greens with your pho. Beansprouts, Thai basil, lemon and coriander are all provided and always very fresh too.
They also have a good selection of condiments to suit all your needs, be it hoisin sauce, sriracha, chilli oil, etc. I have found the meat amount to be inconsistent, sometimes a generous lashing, sometimes not so much, however overall still a very delicious feed.
The salt & pepper squid here is just heavenly. These tasty morsels are always crispy and so well flavoured with all the umami you can imagine. I love the addition of stir fried onions and chilli and spring onion which really elevated the dish. I can't ever do without this, even on days when I think I can't fit anything else in apart from my bowl of pho and coffee.
Service is generally prompt and good here, with dishes being served up relatively quickly. Definitely a steal for its prices and location....
Read moreI went here on a Monday evening in desperate need of some good Vietnamese food after a few months away.
A lot of Vietnamese restaurants are closed on Monday’s so Adelaide Pho is a godsend with opening hours on a Monday.
The place was jam packed and every table was taken. It was about 6.30pm and I had to wait about 10 mins before a table freed up that was suitable for a solo diner - they weren’t going to give a large table to me which is completely understandable.
Eventually seated and although I knew what I wanted to order already, the staff member said he’d be right back to take my order. 10 mins later I was able to order, they were busy so I won’t criticise them too much, but it would have been nice to have been able to order immediately.
The food came out quite promptly, a pho tai for me. It was tasty and came with the necessary salads on the side.
I felt a little bit sick a few hours later, typical of MSG consumption. Their broth is nice, but I’d prefer something with less MSG. I think I was more sensitive to it, having not eaten MSG laced foods in several months.
Overall still a good feed. Not as cheap as other Vietnamese places but it is in the CBD so a slight increase in menu prices is...
Read moreI’ve seen this place for the past decade and always thought it must be pretty good to have remained here for so long in an awkward location, so out of pure curiosity I checked it out.
It was very dimly lit but since I was ordering takeaway I didn’t care too much and just ordered, getting combination rice. And I guess that’s what I got, but it wasn’t good.
The meat portions were poor and lacked any distinguishable flavour other than being fried, accompanied with a paltry serving of fermented vegetables and shallots, which were unable to salvage the unsavoury food. Bonus points to the pork omelette which I’ve never had before, but otherwise I would definitely not try again, especially not for $20. The price isn’t the issue, but the portions and quality of the food for that price is- I’d much rather spend the same amount at other Vietnamese restaurants in the city or in the suburbs, which are incomparable to whatever it is I got today.
Hopefully it’s just a sloppy mistake and they consistently deliver better food to other people, but they definitely didn’t extent that same courtesy to...
