We (party of 2) dined at Cottage Kitchen on Boxing Day 2024 for brunch as we saw that the venue as open. The positives unfortunately didn’t outweigh the negatives in this instance for me. I was incredibly appreciative that the staff could accomodate us seeing how busy they were. The setting was great, the decor and atmosphere was generally quite lovely and the service was pretty good. I can imagine that the vibe especially on warm summer nights would be great outdoors and pretty cozy indoors during winters.
We ordered the granola as that was one of the few lactose free breakfast options available due to one of us being lactose intolerant. I myself had the eggs benny. The eggs Benny was ok - the eggs were poached to be still gooey, the Hollandaise was nice and I m enjoyed the roasted the red peppers. However at $27 I felt it was a tad absurd that no meat or other proteins were included in the dish. Most other brunch spots in Adelaide offer an eggs benny within the $22-$25 range that include ham, bacon, smoked salmon, pulled pork or some variant of protein, so I was disappointed with this. I added some chorizo which cost an extra $7 😳 I myself am a private chef so I am versed in costing food & hourly rates — perhaps this is why I was so confused as to how the price could be justified.
Where the disappointment truly lay was the granola. It was dry, with no milk given despite asking for lactose free milk & only a tiny spoonful of lactose free yoghurt. It was incredibly dry, the poached pear had almost no flavour & it was disappointing that this cost around $20 for such mediocrity. I understand the kitchen is in its inception so I am willing to come back at a later date once the kitchen staff have had a chance to find their groove. The menu is currently quite limited & could do with a review of what’s on offer. It’s acceptable to charge the premium prices as customers will pay, however a premium quality product must be available. Unfortunately the food was mediocre & nothing remarkable. Truly a missed opportunity for such a gorgeous space - I hope this is rectified in future. Best of luck to...
Read moreNot a great experience at all! The evening started of by our waiter taking my partner’s drink order without even asking me if I would like anything?? Entrees were ok the ceviche was nice and fresh but definitely lacking in seasoning! Once our entrees were cleared they asked if we would like to see the desert menu! We hadn’t even received our mains yet! We then ordered a bowl of chips, Caesar salad , 300g scotch fillet and the charred chicken with a red chermoula sauce, Firstly our waiter asked if we would like our main dishes to come out with the chips and salad which we said yes thank you. Chips and salad arrive with no mains insight! A Minimum 10 minutes go past then the steak and chicken arrive, it was then I notified our waiter that the Caesar salads croutons were stale! She asked if we would like it replaced which I did not see the point since we would most likely get served the same ones! Steak was cooked well but with no char flavour at all! The chicken was also supposed to be charred to but again no char flavour and the chicken had been sous vide with some faint char grill lines and a mediocre watered down red curry sauce definitely not a chermoula of any sort! Finished our meals and went to pay we obviously served by the owner as when we were asked how everything was I brought up the Caesar salad and was informed they have very mixed reviews about it as they use house made gf bread and that is why they taste like that lol!? I don’t know why you would go to all the trouble to make a in house gf bread only to deep fry it for croutons! It is a sad day when the best thing about a Caesar salad is the lettuce cold chewy bacon, cold poached egg and stale Chewy croutons! A Caesar salad should have crisp lettuce crunchy croutons and definitely crispy bacon! Needless to say $203 for sub par food and service, Good pubs are doing better food than this don’t waste your money! My highlight was my strawberries and...
Read moreWe went to Cottage Kitchen for our Valentines Day date. The venue didn’t have our online booking despite multiple email confirmations - it seems like they double booked EVERYTHING. The food took a long time to come out as a result and portion sizes were small. The staff appeared very stressed. But then came our hero - Emily. Emily was it. Emily was and is the moment. She came in like a knight in shining armour. Bonnie Tyler’s ‘I Need a Hero’ started playing in our heads like the scene with the Fairy Godmother out of Shrek. Emily ushered us from the cold out doors into the warmth of indoor seating and it was like light shone down upon us from above. Emily, like a hospitality ninja, dodged complaints from many Karen’s politely and respectfully along the way. And suddenly, we were safe, in the beautiful arms of Emily, our hero. She was out front seating people, she was answering the phone, she was behind bar. Emily was EVERYWHERE and EVERYTHING. Emily had the world upon her shoulders and she was doing squats with it. Long live the...
