Perhaps if you are unfamiliar with Indian food and were starving then and only then would I suggest Govinda's as a place to eat. I can recall eating at a Hare Krsna restaurant many years ago in Frome street Adelaide and the food was extremely tasty and varied. Roll on some forty or so years to July 2024 and I made the mistake to revisit Govindas. The food was without doubt was the most uninspiring and tasteless "Indian" food I have ever encountered. Dal is a basic Indian subsistence food but what passed for dal at govindas reminded me of the watery lentil soup one received when trekking in remote Nepal. As for the battered gobi words fail me to bother an attempt to express my disappointment. As for the cold and under-cooked aloo wedges; I can only suggest the cook hasn't heard of Bombay spuds, or couldn't be bothered to make the effort. There will be Krishna chants going on the background if you want a blissful environment. The eat-as-you can buffet costs $10 while you can also take away, which is $6. Read moreThis place should be packed. The food is well cooked, fresh and healthy and absolutely yummy, 3 courses, all you can eat and for only $12. Vegetarian of course, but plenty of complete protein. And the ladies serving were delightful. This is the perfect eating place for students! If we lived in Adelaide we’d be eating here a couple of nights every week. My only suggestion would be for some clear signage at the building entrance for diners. We had to ask several people which way to go. But we loved it and will be back this weekend....
