Dont be fooled by the pretty photos online.
We booked a social club function, expecting 25-35 people. Because of the number we were upstairs in their function room, tables were set up we were off to a good start. Dissapointing, the tables hadn't been wiped over. I sat at a table where there were already crumbs, then another table with a sticky drink mark. It was obvious that the room had not been cleaned in a while.
The menu was much smaller than what was advertised online. We had been to the Historian twice before to scout the food before the event. Kitchen was closed at 6.30 due to lack of business.
Food on the night...
We do not expect food to come all at once. People order and eat as it comes.
I shared aranchini balls with a few chips with my friends - very tasty! At my table 2 people ordered the salad which sounded delicious. Sold out. So, I ordered a cheeseburger. You can't mess up a cheeseburger, right. Both mine and another had buns that were so blackened inside that you would think they had been cremated. Obviously, the cook had noticed and tried to hide it because a big piece had been cut off the side of mine. Luckily, I don't mind missing the bread. I pointed it out (supervisor/manager) as he went past and asked,'Did you leave these in the toaster too long?). His reply was dismissive, and he denied it. He could see it was black! He walked off without an apology or offer to replace it. My chips were too salty to eat. Reports from other guests: The pumpkin soup was so salty I couldn't eat it. Chips were too salty to eat. The steak was good. Food was burned.
I know 30 people is a big group for this pub, but we gave lots of notice and confirmed days before.
We are looking for a regular place for 20- 40 people to go for drinks and most will have dinner. This will not be at...
Read moreAttended the Historian for lunch today with work mates for our staff Christmas lunch. I attempted to buy 4 different drinks (Midori with Lemonade, Malibu with Lemonade, Jim Beam with Coke, Strongbow Cider. I was told by the male staff member they dont have any of the drinks i had requested. I paid $29.00 for the Chicken Parmigiana and left without a drink.
I asked the male waiter who delivered my lunch if that was a Chicken Parmigiana. He yelled yes and passed me the plate (tilted) which caused the chips to fall of my plate.
Extremely disappointed with the service and the food presented to me today. Worst meal and service I have ever had.
Chicken was overcooked, rubbery, no cheese, with a little bit of lettuce and slice of pear on the side, presentation not great.
Pictures below, as you can see the Chicken Parmigiana looks nothing like the pictures you have displayed on your website and Facebook pages.
Second time in 3 years I have been to the Historian and wouldn't recommen.
Re your response
I dont believe we were late. We were allocated 2 hours for lunch 12pm to 2pm, not sure why the meals had to be cooked prior to anyone attending. Plenty of time for a professional chief/s to cook fresh food in that time. Most of us were lined up in front of house for a minimum of 10-15 minutes. Understanding there were alot of other people not with our group that were also lined up placing...
Read moreGood food, the new menu is quite the supprise. the new chef must have trained outside of Australia. Very good
The new paint being the light whites and tones make the place fell more spacious the previously when it was more dull and dark.
Plenty of choices of beer, all the mainstream plus a few tasty boutique creations every now and then as they change them out. In evenings when it starts to get warming it's going to be a contested place to sit out at a table on/in the "#parklet" thing after a long Thursday or Friday at work to help unwind with...
