The Taste of China, located in the bustling market plaza food court, is a true gem for lovers of traditional Chinese cuisine. This stall stands out not only for its wide array of authentic dishes but also for its star offering: the brisket soup. The brisket soup is a masterful blend of tender beef brisket, aromatic herbs, and a clear, flavorful broth. Each spoonful reveals the depth of flavors achieved through hours of meticulous preparation. The brisket itself is melt-in-your-mouth tender, infused with the savory essence of the broth. The soup is both hearty and satisfying, perfect for any time of the year. As it is a food court, never expect any service given as it’s all self served.

Occasionally I have lunch at the Market Plaza Food Court. Very lively during the early afternoon, so it can be tricky securing a table, but from around 2pm it becomes quieter. Lately, my go-to stall there is 'My Mum's Kitchen' (好地方). The lady who takes the orders is warm and friendly, while the other lady who is mostly working in the kitchen is always smiling. I think the second lady is Mum? Pictured is my favourite dish of theirs I have eaten: Mapo tofu, which is also available to eat with noodles. A lot of their dishes are of good quantity for their price.

I recently popped into a restaurant where the grub was decent, but the service was a real shocker. The lady serving me must've thought her job was to perfect the art of glaring; her smile was rarer than a dingo sighting in the city. Honestly, I felt like I was at boot camp for wannabe prison wardens. The food was good, but it’s hard to enjoy your meal when you’re dodging icy stares. A tip for the management: a smile wouldn’t hurt—it’s the customers who are keeping your doors open, after all.

PURE VEGETARIAN store offers discriminating serving size. First, who knows if they serve REAL "vegan/vegetarian food", "no MSG", etc. The servers deliberately scoops up food size depending on your race, gender, looks, and physique. I could not count the times how my plate was HALF the size, the Australian served after me. The servers count each piece and quantity that goes into your plate. All of the servers are this bad, but you'll notice one server is even worse than the other especially the females. They count the money, each dime is worth gold. The Food Court itself gets 3.5 stars, it has some what diverse Asian food, vibrant atmosphere, could be made better. Begin with the lighting as it's too dark, then table/seating arrangement as it's too cramped. The food court had a recent "revamp" couldn't see nor feel much difference, thought it...

Food court has a diverse range on offer. The tables are usually cleared away quickly and the place is generally buzzing with happy and well fed diners. The food court is wheelchair accessible, toilets and baby high chairs are available as well. You might be lucky to spot one of the wrens flying in to pick leftovers off the floor. I generally opt for Pure Vegetarian (every dish is great, try the sago pudding and black rice for dessert!) Or the $11.90 "not-self"-serve (thanks covid) which is cheap and you can get as much as you want on the plate. Mum's Gimbap is another good option, as well as the Japanese ramen place whose name escapes me. I'm keen to try the laksa one day, the yum cha is also good. On the way out towards the...
