Today my experience at Big Table was very bad. As a new resident in Adelaide, it was my first time visiting this restaurant and also my last time ever. Mainly because of the service there was horrible - frustrating and disengaging. I walked passed by and was attracted by the muffins, and I could see clearly there were two kinds of muffins-blueberry and another flavour. A young female staff approached me after I gazed at her for a few seconds. I told her I want one muffin and before I was about to ask what the other muffin was, she said these were blueberry muffins. I then said but I could see there was another flavour there and what was it? She couldn’t say the name correctly so she quickly changed her attitude and said the blueberry muffins were the best. So I bought blueberry one. Then I asked her to scoop $5 potato salad for me and without further conversation she just started straight away scooping the salad in a box. I noticed it was a lot and I tried to stop her and explain that I wanted just $5 amount. She didn’t respond. Then she asked for $15 and I said why $10 for the salad. She said I said so and I said no, I asked for $5. She said the minimal order for salad was $10 and I was supposed to have already seen that info, which was hidden among all the other information over the counter. I paid anyway. After I approached a middle age grey hair manager/owner look man trying to make a complaint about the female staff’s service attitude. He didn’t respond to me nor even asked what happened. They should have resolved this minor issue face to face by just a few words but they failed to manage this unhappy purchase experience of mine. This is why I am writing my experience in detail...
Read moreI was in the Central Markets at lunchtime today and thought I'd drop by the Big Table for some lunch. You could say I'm a semi regular, so familiar with what they offer. I was standing at the counter in which there seemed to be only one young female employee. A young man got there just after me, and the young woman approached him first while ignoring me. The other customer gestured towards me to indicate I was first. I went to order but the staff member totally ignored me and again asked him what he'd like. Again he gestured to say that I was before him. She seemed either totally confused or completely somewhere else. I appreciated the polite customer but not the behaviour of the staff member. I told her don't bother I'll find somewhere else. This is not a one off with this place, this has happened to me on more then one occassion. It seems to be when this particular person is working, she seems to want to pick and choose which order she wants to serve, not the order of who was next in line. I would have thought my money is a good as anyone else's! There's seems to be an indifference with staff at this place towards customers. Without us you wouldn't be there. So, with that I've decided I'm not going to be there it was the final straw. There are many more interesting, with pleasant staff and better food providing establishments then here. You've lost me I've voted...
Read moreThis used to be the most amazing place for breakfast in the Central Market. It has been taken over by new family who appear to have absolutely no idea about running a successful food business. The service is slow, the food is not cooked to the same standard by any means. Staff were constantly fluffing with my food with their bare hands moving it back and forth between the cooker and the plate. One younger male staff member wanders around like he has no grip on reality. For the first time in years the coffee tasted appalling. So disappointed, all the old amazing staff seem to have disappeared and the new family don’t engage and talk over the top of each other in what I can only assume is Lebanese. Not that there’s anything wrong with being Lebanese, but make an effort to engage your customers and provide a service, not just worry about what’s happening in the kitchen and that alone. An icon gone. PS. Egg whites are meant to be white, not...
