I would like to share my experience from my visit to St. Louis on the 5th of October around 9 p.m.
When I entered the café, there were a few customers in front of me, so I waited in the queue as usual. After they were served and had paid, it became my turn to order. However, instead of taking my order, she suddenly moved to the other side and started serving other customers who had just arrived after me.
I continued waiting, thinking she might come back soon, but after finishing those customers’ orders, she still didn’t return to me. She didn’t acknowledge me at all — she simply ignored my presence and went on doing her own tasks as if I wasn’t there. I was left waiting for a very long time, completely unattended, to the point where other customers were even looking at me, feeling quite confused about why I was being left out.
Then, after another non-Asian customer stood behind me, she finally came back and started to take my order. When I asked her a few simple questions about the menu, she replied coldly, “I don’t know about it,” with a serious expression.
I was very surprised, because every time I have visited St. Louis before, the staff have always been friendly, kind, and helpful. That’s one of the reasons I’ve continued to visit for a long time. However, this time I felt quite sad, and as an Asian woman, I couldn’t help but feel that I might have been treated differently.
I didn’t want to believe it was about racism, but she kept taking orders from so many non-Asian customers who came after me, while I was the only one left waiting. Even though I arrived earlier than others, I was completely overlooked.
I am not writing this as a complaint but as feedback that I think is important to share. The cashier represents the face of the café, and I truly hope that no one else experiences this kind of situation in the future. I truly hope this never happens again at the café that once made me feel happy to visit.
Thank you for taking the...
Read moreMyself and a few other friends visited the norwood st. louis this evening and were very disappointed with the service. Firstly our water glasses were dirty and looked unpolished. This seems to be a theme among st. louis cafes. Secondly our friend was rudely told to leave after she came to join us at our table indoors. We tried to bring a chair in from outside after seeing that another table had brought in 2 other chairs without any issues but were told off for this, and our friend told to “get out” rudely by the owner. While we appreciate that there is a set capacity indoors, we had already paid for a decent amount of food and were offended by the handling of the situation. A simple apology would have been appreciated. However, we moved outside into the cold evening. Note the heater was not turned on. Next our food was taken to our old table, after a significant wait of half an hour. When our food finally arrived to our table, it was unappetizing in a cardboard box, unlike the food that was meant for us brought to the wrong table. The churros were ok, no compensation was offered for the poor earlier treatment. The final straw was that our friend was given a fork for her ice cream. Apparently this was because they had run out of spoons, unsure why a teaspoon wasn’t available. Will be tentative to come back. North adelaide st....
Read moreThe kids that manage orders at this place are either undertrained or have their hands tied by a dysfunctional work environment.
Ordered a couple of coffees and ice creams using the app advertised at the table. We received the coffees in reasonable time and they were average.
After waiting over 25 minutes, I decided to go check in on our ice creams, left the girl at the counter to go do her thing and I came back to our table to give the staff some space to sort it out.
After waiting another 10 mins, I went again, talked to the same girl and she was as dumbfounded as the first time. Between then and being put off and asking for a refund, I was told that the receipt didn't have the orders for the ice creams (it did), and that they just didn't know what was going on. Finally someone did come up and apologise, but all that wasn't worth the dessert they were selling.
Protip: Don't use the app. If you have to try their stuff, go up to the counter and order or try takeaway. Chances are that way you'll actually get to try some...
