Took my family there for Christmas Eve dinner. We are normally fairly easily pleased, but.... Firstly the service was ordinary at best but in defence of the waiting staff they were understaffed and they knew it. They were polite even when being asked tough questions (not only by us) but you could tell that they were stressed by constantly being challenged. The food was very sub par. It's a pub so we didn't expect Michellin star quality food but $45 for a very small plate with a soggy salad, a handful of chips/fries and small two strips of dry weedy whiting, and yes sadly for the "cook" some of us can tell the difference between weedy whiting and King George whiting was seriously taking the Mickey. My $28 Caeser salad was again limp and stodgy. No mean feat to achieve IMHO. The pizzas were huge but pretty much just big fairly tasteless hunks of pizza bread. The one shining light on the night was the ribs. Huge, tasty and perfectly cooked. I know pub food can't be expected to taste like it's had the same pride and care put into that a good restaurant plate has but neither should it taste like the cook literally DGAF. Won't be recommending the Bath hotel, in fact I'll be warning people away. Gotta wonder how they get away with it considering all the foodary competition along the Parade. No one from the waiting staff to the duty manager to the kitchen staff seemed to have any pride in what they were doing and whole experience for us...
Read moreMy wife and kids attended for a special occasion on 29/12/16 as it's always been one of our favourite pubs. We were disappointed this time around. The menu has changed (no problems there - it's their prerogative and we've not been for a while) and we were not enamoured with our meals.
At over $30 for a main course my wife's King George whiting fillets were tiny, accompanied by masses of chips and a paltry coleslaw. My lamb dish (a square of compressed lamb rolled in prosciutto) was very dry and lacked a sauce accompaniment, while the quinoa salad didn't add much flavour. The kids' meals were okay, but nothing spectacular (the generic tempura chicken nuggets and a house burger).
We ordered a Shaw and Smith sauvignon blanc but my wife, who drinks this stuff all the time, wasn't convinced it was what came out in the glass. The colour was markedly different to what she's accustomed to and it looked watered down. I'm not accusing the venue of actually watering down drinks, as that would be a serious breach of liquor licensing laws. I just wonder if the bar staff poured from the wrong bottle.
Overall, very disappointing this time around. I'm willing to concede that this could be a one-off event, and it won't stop me from returning. However, if next time things haven't improved I'll do what I should have last night and provide feedback in person at the time.
To their credit, the table service...
Read moreTook my elderly parents & sister for lunch mid week. Ordered 3 wines & a beer at the bar. Bartender used the till and then passed eftpos and said $9.49 hmmm I said are you sure. He then came back and re- entered drinks with correct price. We then waited at least 40mins before our order was taken the same person who served our drinks took our order stating he had forgotten about us?? Well time passed and another waiter came over to check if our order had been taken we said yes, she said I’ll go check where your food is at. She returned to apologise that our order had not been received in the kitchen. We were offered free drinks as compensation. The food was good. We then went to pay the bill & order coffees. We ended up bringing overcharged and had to have it double checked. Another apology. We asked another waitress how long the person who had been serving us had worked there and she said “Timmy, he is the bosses son” well I said well he’s costing his Dad money then if I hadn’t did anything about the $9.49 for the drinks and forgetting to take our order and stuffing up putting through and then the overcharge. Be careful and...
