The view is beautiful from the undercover outdoor seating area of the Birkenhead Tavern as it sits at the warf of old Port Adelaide or you can opt for the indoor seating they have available. The menu offers a selection for all tastes breakfast lunch and dinner. We went for Dinner with local friends who frequently enjoy the Tavern. The meals were beautiful and fresh. I chose the Risotto and it was absolutely 💯 delicious. I then followed up with coffee and sticky date pudding. The Meals and dessert portions are very generous in size. #.The ramekin of Icecream was sitting in the pudding sauce. This was messy and off putting. I don't know where the ramekin had been prior to sitting in my bowl of food. I tried to discuss this concern with the wait staff who was less than interested. Which is disappointing as my complaints are small but could make all the difference to service. This in no way affects the experience of the Tavern and my friends say the breakfast is a must try.

Went for a walk around the area to see the old steam tug boat "Fearless". While walking by we decided to stop in to the tavern for a quick drink. The bar staff were super friendly and kind. We had a couple of drinks and people watched for a while. The place was getting pretty busy, but despite the number of customers, nothing seemed to be too much bother for the wait staff or bar staff who took everything in their stride. Our dinner was delicious, it was simple fish and chips with salad, but it was fresh and tasty and reasonably priced. Our plates were cleared quickly and we decided to stay for dessert. Had the cheesecake, which was a generous portion and while unusual in flavour (Apricot and chocolate and... Something else? On a chocolate biscuit base) It was yummy and we finished it all! Thank you for a very enjoyable, impromptu evening.

Our group decided to come here for lunch, despite me living in the area for 10years. Well I must admit it wasn't bad, despite the bloke taking the orders having a blonde moment & confusing my order of swordfish with a ceasar salad. And having to wait & watch while the rest of my group, who ordered after me all get their meals, most had finished before I got mine. I began to wish I'd ordered plain old fish & chips as they looked really good as did some of the salads. My dish was nice, but unfortunately one of the pieces of swordfish was a bit too raw for my taste, (I'm not a fan of raw fish) and it was bland despite me seasoning it. But the fattoush salad that came with the swordfish was superb. I wished they'd marinated the swordfish with the fattoush seasoning, now that'd make it a really nice dish.

Cannot fault this place! Fantastic friendly service from the moment we walked in (with no booking). Nice seating outside looking over the Port River, warm on a cool night thanks to the clear blinds. Would also be lovely in the day time with them open. Surprisingly busy for a Tuesday night, with lots of families and a lovely vibe. The food (chicken schnitzels) came out so fast and were really tasty and large. Good price at $17 on special on Mon, Tues and Wed (normally $22). I couldn't finish mine and they gave me a container to take away. Definitely recommend for a very good pub meal in a nice location. Probably best to book for a large group or at a more popular time!

Fantastic experience, excellent value and service. Wonderful atmosphere and location at Pt Adelaide with delightful Seabreeze, sitting outside in the shade. Relaxing view of the harbour and the water. not crowded. Great menu selection.Had my favourite dish, lambs fry, with the very best serving I have ever had. With a superb glass of cab-sav in the company of my son,on a magical sunny day in winter, drawing everybody outside to enjoy it. This place is a well kept secret and we will be definitely coming back here again. It's a lovely drive there and drive back along the coast seeing the beautiful blue sea made for a special memorible outing and time together.

Long standing historic Port Adelaide hotel. Gone are the days of sawdust on the floor of the Front Bar with a lovely enclosed Dining area overlooking the Port River and port area, with the Red Lighthouse and Fisherman's Wharf across the water. Interesting display of wall photos to bring back the heydays of this area. You can only imagine the stories the walls could tell..Comprehensive menu for both good and drinks. Helpful and friendly staff. All in all a pleasant surprise in what would have been a rough diamond hotel in years gone past..
