The view is beautiful from the undercover outdoor seating area of the Birkenhead Tavern as it sits at the warf of old Port Adelaide or you can opt for the indoor seating they have available. The menu offers a selection for all tastes breakfast lunch and dinner. We went for Dinner with local friends who frequently enjoy the Tavern. The meals were beautiful and fresh. I chose the Risotto and it was absolutely 💯 delicious. I then followed up with coffee and sticky date pudding. The Meals and dessert portions are very generous in size. #.The ramekin of Icecream was sitting in the pudding sauce. This was messy and off putting. I don't know where the ramekin had been prior to sitting in my bowl of food. I tried to discuss this concern with the wait staff who was less than interested. Which is disappointing as my complaints are small but could make all the difference to service. This in no way affects the experience of the Tavern and my friends say the breakfast is a must try.

Went for a walk around the area to see the old steam tug boat "Fearless". While walking by we decided to stop in to the tavern for a quick drink. The bar staff were super friendly and kind. We had a couple of drinks and people watched for a while. The place was getting pretty busy, but despite the number of customers, nothing seemed to be too much bother for the wait staff or bar staff who took everything in their stride. Our dinner was delicious, it was simple fish and chips with salad, but it was fresh and tasty and reasonably priced. Our plates were cleared quickly and we decided to stay for dessert. Had the cheesecake, which was a generous portion and while unusual in flavour (Apricot and chocolate and... Something else? On a chocolate biscuit base) It was yummy and we finished it all! Thank you for a very enjoyable, impromptu evening.

we came in for dinner and four of us ordered chicken parmis. once they came out the kitchen only one parmi was brought out - upon questioning the girl who brought the food out checked with the kitchen. she came back and explained that as the ticket says a normal schnitzel that there’s nothing they can do for the three missing parmis. we said that’s okay, but we definitely all ordered parmis. not causing a fuss we began to eat our meals, when the older woman who took our orders came out and said “i heard you all had a problem with your meals.” one of us said “it’s okay we will just eat what’s been served” and she said “no what went wrong” so we told her we ordered four parmis and only one was put through. she began to argue and said we were incorrect and that she asked if we wanted toppings or sauce. we said that we definitely ordered parmis but it’s too late now as the kitchen is closed, and we will just eat what’s was given. she then rolled her eyes and said “okay whatever” and walked away. we were fine eating what we didn’t order, but for the server to come in to interrupt our dinner to argue with us is atrocious. the service was disgusting. for four seperate people to order parmis not even next to eachother and to be put through incorrectly was the older servers fault, as she also struggled finding things on the menu. i understand mistakes happen but her approach to her own error was appalling. food...

Awful venue.

Location is great, Unfortunately the staff were very sub par. Ill start with the rude waiter taking the orders with the name tag "the big dix" which isn't professional at all. He was very rude and abrupt and clearly didn't want to be there.

When asked about whether I could change the Veges to more chips (which every place I've ever gone to has done) he said "nah dont think so, yeah nah dont think so" then when I asked him to check he said oh I guess I could check

Came back with the answer " well you aren't paying for them so we can't switch them out" well I am ordering a dish? And I'm paying for the dish am I not?

Anyway minor detail in the grand scheme if they don't want to do that its fine, however the rude attitude and blatant disinterest in being there was off-putting.

Now let's get to the meals

Me and my partner got a chicken parmigiana and a beef schnitzel. Now unfortunately the vegetables were the best part, and that says something when there's 6 small pieces of vegetables including squash, capsicum, carrot and green beans. And it was very sub par vegetables and the smallest serving I've ever received. The chips were cold, and very sub par, something you could buy from the Woolworth frozen section and cook better in your air fryer.

The meal was a major let down, especially for the price of 25$

Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, was messy, rude staff and poor food....

Ordered Seafood Pie & got Seafood Platter. Pointed this out to the person who served the food and he told me it was the same thing???? As I was eating it I happened to read the menu again and asked him yet again and he then said because of my Dialect, being Scottish! he couldn't understand me, I then said that the masks also made it hard he snapped at me saying that he couldn't do anything about that, he then spoke to the manager and because I had eaten over a half he offered me a free drink and said there was nothing else they could do. I then stewed over this & went to speak to the bloke who took the original order, and he apologised for the mistake and gave me vouchers for another visit which was extremely nice of him. He did admit that the waiter's attitude fell well short of what is acceptable. I will go back, but hope that this waiter's will be looking for another job, I was furious about the whole experience which totally wrecked the whole night. One other thing don't blame me for my accent for your failings to listen to instructions, open your lug...
