Experienced the most disgraceful service yesterday! Ordered a combo AB pack and combo yiros on the phone. Arrived at shop and staff member couldn't find order written down in their hand written book. Reiterated order, mentioning it only had garlic sauce on the AB. Another staff member then interrupted pointing to a bag sitting directly under where the souvlaki was cooking. The original staff member rolled his eyes apologising saying "Sorry, Im out of it today". He picked the bag up I paid and left. Once home I opened the bag only to find a liquid was all over the packaging of the yiros and AB pack. I quickly took items out the bag trying to recover them by pouring liquid out but it was too late it had soaked through the yiros and also the Ab making both meals exceptionally soggy and wet. Immediately I called the shop notifying them what had happened and explaining that something had leaked onto the bag from where it was sat. Staff member was very defensive saying it was the garlic sauce and once things are cooked they are put into a bag so of course they will get soggy till eaten. I then reiterated it had nothing to do with the sauce but the fact that there had been a liquid all in the bag. The staff member apologised and offered a few solutions either come back and we can give u a new meal or a store credit for next time you return. I chose the store credit. As the staff member started taking my details he became aggressive on the phone saying I was blaming him for my food being damaged. I saw for my own 2 eyes that he had collected the bag from under the souvlaki. His attitude had completely changed and he had no interest in providing me with a store credit. Instead he hung the phone up on me. Its disgraceful, disgusting and disappointing customer service because the food is...
Read moreA Modest Harvest on Hindley Street
If I may venture to speak plainly, Yianni’s on Hindley offers a most satisfying repast for the weary and the hungry, especially admirers of Greek fare. One cannot help but be drawn near by the savoury aroma of meat roasted over charcoal, which announces itself from some distance - like an invitation from a dear old friend.
The lamb yiros prepared with generous devotion, succulent tenderness, and a balance of meat to fresh vegetables is rumoured to be among the finest in Adelaide, awarded distinction as the best kebab in all South Australia. On many an occasion it has been lauded, not only for its depth of flavour but for the earnest quality of its ingredients.
As for the service, it is brisk and businesslike, fitting for a busy take‑away haunt, though a few souls have noted that the cordiality of staff may, at times, fall short of enthusiastic goodwill. The décor, too, is plain - fit for function rather than finery - and the seating modest to the point of scarcity, though truly, most patrons are content to retreat with their parcels of food rather than linger about.
Word travels that Yianni’s draws forth both high praise and a frisson of dissent. Admirers swear by the “authentic street‑food delight,” while contrarians grumble about the occasional undercooked morsel or the lack of accompaniment such as chips - but such remarks are few beside the chorus of approval.
In brief, one finds at Yianni’s a humble establishment, neither grand nor expensive, but faithful in its mission: to provide robust, charcoal-kissed yiros fast enough to satisfy appetite and generous enough to earn...
Read moreIncredible lamb yiros! Possibly best I've ever had anywhere. They pack it with meat, and the pieces are soft, meaty, juicy, beautifully seasoned, and often have wonderfully crispy charred bits in amongst them, honestly it's sooo good! Cons about this place? Takes forever to get your food. They haven't got the best system for ordering, and there is two entrances so people kind of queue up in a higgeldy piggeldy way, then a lot of them bugger off outside while their food is being made and don't hear when the staff call out their order, which results in them waiting and callingnout their order several times, wasting time and just drawing out the whole process. Been here twice now, onve on a Saturday evening so it was expectedly busy, took over 20min to get our food but didn't think anything of itsince it was very busy. But then came again on a Sunday day time, and it still took over 15min to get our food even though it was relatively quiet compared to night before (bear in mind the meat is all pretty much cooked already on the big skewers so it's just throwing the yiros together, some places can get you a yiros in under 2 mins). All that being said though, I have to say they're worth the wait, just don't go if...
