Todd Tavern — Restaurant in Alice Springs

When I arrived, I really feared for my life and wondered what I had got myself and my partner into - drunk people spilling out into the street at 2pm on a Friday. Needn't have worried - the room, although old and dingy, was clean and air conditioned. The bed, admittedly, was terrible and needs replacing as it was tiny, squeaky and had springs sticking out of it. Apart from that, not bad. We were amazed at how quiet the room was given its location above a noisy pub that has indigenous people there drinking and carrying on from open until close. Conveniently located and walking distance to pretty much everything in Alice Springs. We had a couple of great meals in the bistro where the staff were very friendly. Amazing caesar salad and pizza, roast very nice but meal size tiny for the price. Excellent service from the other staff, even the security guards were friendly. Staff were super helpful with parking our car securely each night and getting it out again each morning. This is NOT an area you would want to leave your car out at night, so their willingness to do this was a huge weight off our shoulders as we had just purchased a brand new vehicle and it was full of our stuff due to relocating from interstate. Own (tiny) bathroom was handy. Overall happy with the place for the price - service was definitely the standout. Would have been 3 stars if not for the level of service. I've been to Todd Taverns a few times. Twice to dine it and once to drink at the bar. On 22nd Jan 2015 my girl and I decided to have dinner there. I took advantage of the Chicken schnitzel special and my girl ordered the house burger with no meat patty and no bacon but with tomato sauce instead of bbq sauce. This is when we started to notice the annoyed attitude of the cashier. The cashier lady had dark hair. I should've gotten her name. So we then enjoyed our salad bar and then was served our food. Mine of course was fine but my girls burger did not come with the egg as it is offered on the menu and it had bbq sauce on it. So she got up and return the plate and told the same cashier that she wants the egg and she asked for tomato sauce NOT bbq sauce. And on top of all of that the bun wasn't even toasted or warm! Okay, so my girl got her plate back. Guess what, yeah you've guessed, bbq sauce is still on the burger. They didn't even want to make a new burger but they wanted to recycle the old one. At this point I got up and went back to the same cashier who took our order. As I was telling her that this burger still has bbq sauce she was trying to grab the plate out of my hand. I quickly jerked back and said "You wait a minute! You still did NOT get my order corrected! I do NOT want this food! This is the third time visiting you to get a satisfying order! The food here is amazing. We came here without really knowing what to expect and we have been blown away by the quality of food. The menu is very limited but the choices should suit everyone. We ordered lamb blackstrap, and kangaroo fillet, both with potato gratin. Both were excellent. Our friends ordered vegetables and chips and they were also very good. I also ordered the Chef Salad which was also exceptional. This is a lovely old pub a little out of the centre of Alice but still very close to everything. Easy parking at the back of the hotel. Lovely staff - what more could you ask for. We are back here in a week and will definitely come here for dinner.
