MISSY THE CAT RETURNS!
Four and a half stars for The Welder's Dog (Armidale). Little places like this are the saving grace of many a small rural university town, around the world. And what a special blessing it is to be able to find good company and good drinks on a cold, rainy New England evening in Armidale.

Read moreSee this place as your best opportunity to try beers and spirits not available in your standard country pub. In cities, these places are a dime a dozen but in a country town you have to grab any chance you get to have something other than an exotic 'One Fifty Lashes Pale Ale'.
Owners are friendly, knowledgeable and proud of their establishment. The drinkers are normal people who just want to try something new and get away from the TAB and pokies.

The beer fridge doesn't have the great range it once did, and there are no rotating guest taps. While welders beers are good (albeit their flavour has changed noticeably in the last several months?), having just those options all the time is getting stale.
