Dory's Takeaway — Restaurant in Ballina

What a disappointment this place was. We were visiting Ballina and looked online to find somewhere that served local seafood and we chose this place as it had a good rating. Ordered online with an estimate of 15 minute pickup time and received indication of this after 15 minutes. Arrived in time to pickup but had to wait at least another 30 minutes for our order!! Drove back to our caravan and even more disappointment. Sweet potato chips were cremated, over salted and inedible. Potato chips were overcooked and very greasy. Squid was not crispy but very greasy and a rip off at $18. Battered Dory fish was ok but very greasy too. I think a corner fish and chip shop would do a better job at a third the price. We were so disgusted with the meal we took the time to respond to there feedback invitation with unsatisfied response. It's been over 3 days with no response from them. Hence resorting to a public review. We have now left Ballina on our planned journey and have no chance recourse. This situation has left us disgruntled and we definitely...

We travelled down from the Gold Coast so my daughter could play in an AFL game and we headed to Dory's Takaway on the 14th of May for dinner after my daughter's AFL game. I am so glad we did. The food was great and was a generous serving. We ordered two hamburgers and a seafood pack for 2 that my wife and son shared. With my son being a teenager and usually eats alot of food, he couldn't finish his meal it was that big. The staff were very friendly and were patient with us while we decided on what we wanted to order. I found the burger I ordered to be extremely well prepared and very generous with the toppings. My wife and son found the seafood basket was cooked perfectly and again there was a generous serving of food. I would say we definitely got our money's worth last night and I highly recommend going here lunch or dinner. When we head down Ballina way again, this takeaway store will be the 1st place that I will be going to for something to eat. I would most definitely go there again and I am trying to think of an excuse to go back...

This isn't your typical chippy. Dory's shares the kitchen with the restaurant next door and the quality of the preparation and cooking comes through in the food. This is proper restaurant quality fish and chips with every order prepared and cooked to order. Probably the best "takeaway" fish and chips I've had!

We ordered fish, octopus, squid, prawns and a large serve of chips. Came with plenty of lemon and tartar sauce. Chips are extra crispy and well seasoned. The batter on the fish is thick and crunchy ... not stodgy or soggy.

I would recommend dropping in if you are in the area. There are a few tables inside or takeaway and sit by the water to eat.
