El Guapo is always fabulous. And tonight was no different, EXCEPT for when the time came to pay the bill. The food was amazing, the waitresses who served us during the night were friendly and polite and the atmosphere was lovely. But when my friend and I came to pay our bill, it went downhill fast! The printed receipt from our meal stated our bill was $121. My part was $73 (jalepeno poppers $15, large frozen margarita $27, chicken enchilada $28 add on $3 for guac equaling $73). I paid, no drama. When my friend when to pay the rest of the bill ($28 chicken enchilada and $20 mojito, equaling $48) the worker behind the counter became very defensive, saying that my friend owed $51 and we could sort the $10 out between us, which made no sense because the last time I checked $73 + $48 =$121.00, which is exactly what our receipt said. She then tried saying the receipt wasn’t matching her computer, which was odd as that is what the receipt was printed from, what was on the screen. Then when I showed her that in fact it was the correct calculation, she very rudely said ‘she couldn’t be bothered to sort it out’ and that it would ‘just have to come directly out of her pay’ Ah, what exactly is coming out of your pay, when we have paid the correct bill in full? I think she quickly realised she was incorrect, but instead of owning that, she decided to be rude and make it out like it was our fault for a non existent error. This woman had an air of authority, so I believe she may have been a manager perhaps? I understand people have bad nights, and I have never ever had a problem with the staff here before, but for my friend and I to leave basically scratching our heads with ‘what the hell was that about??’ is disappointing. And just when you think a possum crapping on your table at the end of the meal is going to be the worst part of...
Read moreIt was my partner’s birthday and I was planning a day trip together for the day and had to find a place for dinner. Bathurst seemed to have a number of good restaurants but most of them were Modern Australian cuisine and I wanted something different, and boy am I so glad I found this place.
As a fan of good Mexican food, this place is by far one of the very best places I’ve ever eaten at in Australia. The chicken quesadilla, guacamole, charred corn with cheese, chicken tacos and fish tacos that we ordered were brilliant and I couldn’t stop nodding my head when I was eating them (a sign I am very much enjoying the food I’m eating). The flavours were exceptional and after having eaten so much I actually did not feel gross or terrible afterwards but quite alert and “light”. Must’ve been all the cabbage and avocado that was in the food. The beef fajita we ordered was ok, the meat tasted like if you seasoned meat with an Old El Paso taco kit (and I’m personally not really a fan of fajitas or Old El Paso).
On top of that, the service is absolutely top notch and what I would consider gold standard. The waitresses are very attentive and friendly without being overbearing.
Thankfully there is a store in Neutral Bay which I am keen to check out at some point because the drive to Bathurst is simply too far to make on the regular.
If you’re in Bathurst, you HAVE to eat at this place! Thanks to the people who created this store, you deserve very high praise for the food...
Read moreI have been to El Guapo once before and did not enjoy the food. Recently, I heard some good reviews and decided to give it another go. My friend and I went on a Tuesday which turned out to be Taco Tuesday. Since I am gluten free we asked for the tacos to be on the corn tortilla. The staff continued to bring out wheat tortillas despite our constant reminders for the corn tortilla. After quite some time one lovely staff member started bringing out tacos on the corn tortilla so I was able to eat. The staff not only didn't listen to our order but were also rude. Other friends came to join us just for a drink and a catch up so did not originally pay the $25 for the taco and free drink. When the tacos arrived they decided they would stay to eat and were going to pay as we left. A staff member came up to us very rudely and shoved the eftpos machine in their faces. I realise we did not explain to the staff we were going to pay as we left, but you may have kept us as customers if you had explained kindly you would've liked the rest of our party to pay when they decided they were going to eat instead of as we were leaving. I will not be returning to this restaurant and I will not recommend this...
