Ashton & Old is a cool little cafe situated at the intersection of Old Cleveland Rd and Ashton Street in Camp Hill. During our visit on a bustling Sunday morning, we opted for outdoor seating, which was pleasant and shaded. The cafe's popularity is well-deserved, owing to its delicious food, ample portions, and the exceptional service provided by the friendly and efficient staff. Our table was ready, orders promptly taken, and the food and drinks served without delay. Although there was a minor issue with my toasted sandwich, it was quickly rectified.
There were four of us dining and we enjoyed a variety of dishes, including bruschetta breakfasts, a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich, and a Japanese pancake, accompanied by coffees, lattes and a fresh, chilled fruit drink.
The single toilet, located outside the cafe, was clean and well-maintained, albeit the lack of clear signage was a minor inconvenience. You’ll need to ask the staff for the key.
Parking was easy, and we found an unrestricted spot right outside the venue.
However, the cost of the meal was the only downside, which loses it one star. The total bill of $118 for four breakfasts and drinks was steep, no doubt also influenced by the current economic climate. The menu prices were relatively high, reflecting the impact of what can now only be described as hyperinflation. For instance, the cost of certain items, and additional charges for things like tomatoes on a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich has noticeably increased.
In summary, Ashton & Old offers a pleasant dining experience with fresh and tasty food and efficient service. While the prices may be on the higher side, the overall experience makes it a...
Read moreFantastic customer service! These people know to treat their valued customers. The staff are warm, friendly and very service orientated. I've been meaning to try out this cafe for ages, but the location has made it slightly tricky. It's situated on busy Old Cleveland Rd, at the end of a small block of shops, so I've over shot it a couple of times. Like me, you may struggle finding a car park, but do keep trying! Camp Hill locals walk up with their dogs and kids, but for others like me, there is a handy car park directly behind the building, the entrance is off Ashton St. This car park does full up pretty quickly, as it services all businesses in the block. Parking spots, outside the cafe on Old Cleveland Rd, , and along Ashton St do fill up very quickly, so you may struggle during peak times. I suggest checking out the live "popular times" option on your Googlemaps app. Today I found a park! We were warmly greeted the moment we entered Ashton & Old. I was actually surprised as it's very spacious inside, with lots of handy table seating options. They have plenty of bench seating for individuals looking for a quiet coffee, and a very large wooden table at the back for groups. The counter area is cut off from the main dining, which allows them to service their takeaway coffee customers. The curb side alfresco seating area is a very popular spot for dog owners, which sets the relaxed, community spirited vibe this cafe has. I enjoyed my fruit salad which was beautifully presented, perhaps a bit small in portion size - but definitely delicious!. I'm looking forward to my return visit, so I can try out a few more menu options. They also provide a...
Read moreFood was great but this unfortunately was this overshadowed by the waiter. We arrived 10 mins early for an 8am breakfast booking and felt like he was trying to hurry us out before we even sat down. When the rest of our party arrived, we were catching up and the waiter asked if we were ready to order yet(at 8.03am) when one of our party said “oh I haven’t looked at the menu properly yet” she was told to hurry up by the waiter as they were fully booked and we had to be out within a set time ( 1hr 45) he also cleared the table before we all finished eating, again trying to push the point. Incidentally there were tables with reserved signs on them that sat vacant the whole time we were there. The waitress was polite and professional and did not try to rush us at all. We were in and out...
