I booked a table of 9 for 8pm on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. As I''m walking into the hotel at 7.59pm I recieved a text from one of my guests saying that the kitchen shuts at 8.30 and ourorders for food have to be in. Two other guests were on their way so I'm in a rush to say hello to everyone and to look at the menu to decide for myself and for vegan guests on their way and to order and pay for our food before the kitchen stops taking orders at 8.30. After making the rushed decisions and orders I asked another waitress what time the kitchen closes and when do orders have to be in by and she said 9.00pm. Clearly someone was lied to. The food was delivered very swiftly, so fast that my other guests had not yet arrived (yes they were late) but the food came out very quickly after ordering, not even ten minutes and for the whole 9 of us all at the same time. That was impressive. I asked for the dishes of our vegan guests to be taken back to the kitchen to keep warm until they arrive and the waitress kindly obliged. During this time, a waitress whom had taken my booking earlier that day came to let me know that the birthday cake was in their fridge and to ask everything was okay. I mentioned being told that the kitchen closes at 8pm and she immediately said no it doesn't and confirmed what the second waitress had said. So my guest who texted me was lied to the moment she arrived by one waitress who clearly has no idea about how to make guests feel welcome in hospitality. When my other guests arrived a short time later, I asked for their meals. A waitress brought them to them table and announced one of the dishes as a Thai Beef Salad. I said no they are supposed to be vegan dishes and I asked if something that looked like cheese was cheese. She said no that is not cheese dear that is Thai Beef Salad. My guest said they are vegan and don't eat meat so then she said,it's Thai Beef Salad.without the beef and then she turned to me and said "are you happy now? Oh yes you have to be happy." I said I would be without the patronising. Then she said oh do you want to talk with the manager? To which I replied I shall. I ended up speaking with the manager as I felt like we all had to rush to order, hurry up eat and get out so one waitress could have an earlier night. By the way, there is no Thai Beef Salad on the menu, it's Thai Salad. The manager was lovely and compensated me for my disappointment, but that waitress needs some serious retraining as it's service like hers that will drive customers away and cause other good, waitress staff to leave...
Read moreThe Carindale Hotel is our local so we decided to pop up for dinner on a Friday night.
As usual, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our wine was nice. Our mains were a bit mixed. The pizza was great, but the eye fillet steak was overcooked. Medium was requested and one end was medium/well but most of the steak was well done with no hint of pink.
We decided to have dessert and the vegan chocolate cake was good and the addition of a vegan (and therefore dairy free) option was very much appreciated. Thank you for providing this option. The apple and rhubarb crumble tasted nice with a subtle spice in the crumb but the filling was disappointing with too little apple or rhubarb.
Unfortunately the ambiance was not great. On the night we were there (June 27), the music was VERY LOUD and the singer was not great. We had to shout at each other to be heard. Live music would be great but only if it was an appropriate volume for the space. As the surfaces are all hard, the music was very unpleasant. When the singer took a break, the sudden drop in noise was amazing and it was as if the entire crowd took a breath and stopped shouting at each other.
On balance our experience was positive but please reconsider the music and relocate it out of the restaurant and/or have quieter more pleasant music provided. Perhaps go louder after 9pm when families have finished eating if that is what...
Read moreI haven't been to the Carindale hotel for many years. Now I wish I didn't go here at all today. If I could give this place a minus 5 stars, I would. The food was HORRIBLE. I ordered the steak sandwich,on gluten free bread, it turned up minus the egg. Not sure why, asked the blond lady, was told it was on its way. Took 10mins to get the egg. Thank goodness the egg finally arrived as I needed it for that "steak". The meat was so burned and tasted stale, I ended up spitting most of it out.The chips feel like they were cooked the night before. My partner had the parmy. Luckily he shared some with me otherwise I would have been super hungry. His parmy wasn't too bad, but the menu said it comes with coleslaw, his came with an undressed limp salad with a unripe tomato. How can a "chef" get a simple steak sandwich so wrong. The staff have no idea what is going on either. It felt like there was only one worker, a filipino lady, who actually knew what she was doing. What a waste of my time & money this place is. To top things off, my stomach is now upset & the "steak sandwich" was the only thing I ate today. Suffice to say we won't be returning and will be mentioning to family and friends how this place has...
