Given the generally 5 starred reviews about this restaurant on this website, we decided to host a birthday dinner last Saturday. Being Asians, we thought that the food of such a reputable restaurant would be up to scratch. Imagine our shock when the experience turned out to be far from what other reviewers were reporting! First, the order was mixed up by the waitress. Two different beef dishes turned up when only one was ordered. This would have been resolved right from the start if the waitress bothered to confirm the orders by repeating them as is normal in the restaurant trade. Nothing of the sort happened. Then, the food arrived. As an Asian who has eaten Asian food across four continents, I do know what good Asian food is like and should be. What arrived was not. The Fillet Steak Hong Kong Style was heavily laced with red colouring and sugar [a very effective taste enhancer for Western palates]. The Szechuan Chilli Beef did not even have a hint of chilli in it, much less accompanied by dried chilli pods as to be expected from a Szechuan dish! The King Prawns in Wine Sauce was particularly disappointing..the prawns were absolutely tasteless. I had to dip them heavily in soy sauce to get any taste at all. The Chinese Broccolli in Oyster Sauce was probably the worst I have tasted in my lifetime. The dish was served with hardly any oil to enhance the dish. The oyster sauce was just slopped onto the vegetables. And it was the saltiest version I have ever tasted. Good oyster sauce is slightly salty to tickle the taste buds while simultaneously bringing out the flavours of the other ingredients. What was served tasted like it came straight from a salt vat. Salt is a preservative, and when used in a large quantity, it masks the qualities of other ingredients. The only dish worth eating was the roast duck and that one can get from any Chinese butchery. When the manager was informed about the order mix up, all that was done was a query to the waitress. No attempt was made to resolve the issue or even an apology by way of some dessert fruits [customary in Chinese restaurants after dinner]. From an Asian perspective, any review of it being "Best Chinese Restaurant in Brisbane" can only mean that I must have been living in a...
Read moreI have been a regular customer here for the last 17 years bringing many family members here for dinner. I experienced the worst customer service on Friday night by a very rude lady who ruined my night. 5 mins after receiving our 3 entrees & drinks, our mains were served and we were not ready so I kindly asked if she could please bring it out once we finish our entrees. She took the dish & left rudely. When it was time for mains, the Mongolian lamb & Chicken cashew nut were served cold. So I kindly asked if they could reheat it. The rude lady replied to me there’s nothing she can do about it. So, I kindly asked again if she could please warm it as it won’t be enjoyable cold… she then argued with me saying the plate is still hot. I replied yes the plate is hot, however the meat isn’t … she then started arguing with me in front of everyone in the restaurant making me look like a problem. I honestly can’t believe how rude she was simply because I asked if the food could be re wok’d or heated. The restaurant was not busy the owner (Stanley) had even left. I am in complete shock how I was treated. Another lady came to explain and re heated the food, but it was still cold and very unenjoyable no one came back to ask how everything was or check in. We will not be returning to this restaurant ever again. It was very embarrassing because we had a international relative visiting. Another lady apologised for the rude lady’s behaviour but it is so unacceptable to be treated and shouted at like that. Especially for such a simple request when your restaurant wasn’t busy and the chef & kitchen hands are standing around in the back. This place isn’t cheap either, they obviously don’t value their customers. Very...
Read moreOne of the best Chinese Restaurants in Brisbane and has been for many years. From it's early beginnings in Chinatown Fortitude Valley, to it's present location on Park Road, Milton, the quality of the food has never varied, Excellent. Fantastic Menu, huge variety of food and an excellent Wine list. So grab an Uber and get there, you will not be disappointed. Regrettably our last visit to this once iconic restaurant was very disappointing. The service was ordinary as were the dishes we ordered. Prices are always going to go up however the quality should never go down. I believe the owner Stanley is now semi retired and only spends limited time at the Restaurant, perhaps this is the reason for the downturn. Let's hope this restaurant can return to it's once iconic status. Bon appetit or the Chinese equivalent, if you wish to take...
