visited for a quick weekend brunch. first off, if you drive and intend to come here on a weekend, parking is madness. i’d recommend parking on the on street parking nearer to james st and pay if you need to! i’d also recommend reserving a table beforehand as this cafe gets pretty crowded. upon arrival, we were seated really quickly, which was nice. the service here is really good and everyone is quite pleasant. the music was quite nice as well, though perhaps too loud as i couldn’t hear myself talk. we ordered the mushroom gnocchi and prawn carbonara, as well as a flat white. the flat white was absolutely delicious and the beans went really well with the milk. would definitely recommend it. the food however, took around 30-45 minutes to arrive and we were advised that the kitchen was running a little behind and that they were making a new batch of gnocchi. we were also kindly offered complimentary drinks to make up for the waiting time, which i really appreciated. we had a mocha and iced vietnamese coffee - both of which we found not really suited to our tastes. when the food arrived, it smelt super super good. the gnocchi was super delicious, the mix of mushrooms were nice and the fried kale on top was a nice touch. however, there was a thick layer of oil/butter at the bottom of the dish, which coated everything on the plate very thickly. everything we scooped off the plate was dripping with butter, which was such a disappointment given that each element on the plate was already seasoned so beautifully. i would have enjoyed the dish more if there wasn’t so much butter and if there was a different element, e.g. perhaps nuts, added to the dish. the prawn in the prawn carbonara was grilled to perfect and was delicious. however, the carbonara was a little bit too heavy for me - perhaps because the thick creamy sauce was paired with a thick pasta. i would’ve liked more infusion of the prawn flavour into the sauce and perhaps a smaller portion (abit absurd of a request). overall, the meal was simply too heavy and rich for us and we didn’t end up finishing the food. perhaps next time i would order a lighter dish along with a heavier one. but would love to visit again to try something else on the menu ❤️

Had high expectations for halo ground, given how popular it’s become in the past year - sadly we were fairly disappointed with the experience we had today. First off, the cafes interior design is definitely one of its selling points! Gorgeous high ceiling with wall art- very sleek and modern! Not as much seating as I expected, so can imagine a wait on the weekends. Additionally, as located in the valley, it is metered street parking and you may need to walk a little bit during busy periods. We ordered the steak bowl and full serving of avo on toast (add a scrambled egg) alongside two coffees. The menu stated adding an egg was $3, however when at the register I was charged $5… I queried this and was told the ‘egg’ referred to only poached, however not being written on the menu. The staff member didn’t apologise and seemed more annoyed than anything that I brought it up, which was disappointing. Upon receiving the scrambled egg, I can definitely see why it was $5 extra, but I felt it was so extravagant for what a usual add on item is. When we received our food, I looked at my partners and thought, ‘this doesn’t even look like it’s from the same place!’ How can two menu items differ so much in quality? The avo on toast was $16 ($21 total) and presentation and taste were significantly lacking, which was super disappointing given how well known this cafe is for their menu. Plus, avo on toast is such a staple menu item for cafes, and so easy to jazz up! On the other hand, my partners steak bowl was delicious, and he commented a ‘must try’ at this cafe. The coffees were average at best but the barista was very friendly! Overall, besides my partners menu item, everything was pretty lacking here. Perhaps we just came on an off day, but for such a hyped up cafe in a popular spot, we expected more. Personally we won’t be back, but hope others have a good experience here!!

wow. i haven’t had such good food in so long and Halo Ground really blew me away🤭✨this was a complimentary brunch for me winning their giveaway~ thank you again🥰 we ordered✨🍽 🦐prawn carbonara: firstly how spectacular does it look??🤩incredible!!! the flavours of this dish were so beautifully balanced out, the pasta was chewy and soft, it states they make their own pasta and it sure was!!! absolutely fresh and delicious!! the sauce isn’t particularly salty but that’s because the prawn and the fish roe saltiness balance it out perfectly, incredible incredible dish! even though we didn’t have to pay, the price for it is $30, i personally think it’s quite steep for the portion size, but for taste and quality? amazing, but definitely not a place i will go often~ 🥩beef bowl: this was INCREDIBLE 🤩🤤holy moly. the beef was perfectly cooked, sliced in perfect thickness, miso emulsion sauce was incredible🥰the rice beneath it was delicious! one thing i’ll mention is, there’s some kind of seasoning within the rice, kinda tasted like yuzu🧐delicious but maybe a little too much because some parts of the rice got too tangy, but apart from that, amazingggg!!🤩look at that yolk too!🤤🤭 🍫🍊iced chocolate and fresh orange: firstly i love the glasses, how intricate and beautiful are they🥺your standard iced choc but with a fancy twist as they put coco power and little crumbs on top! fresh orange was freshly juiced and super refreshing!🔥 overall, what an incredible incredible experience at @halo.ground i really do recommend! the location they are in is relaxing and beautiful too!! we went a little before they closed so we were basically the only ones there hehe🥰also they do soufflé pancakes on the weekend🤤i definitely wanna go again for my beef bowl!🥳

Not worth the Hype. My partner and I made a booking for 9am on a Sunday morning. Upon our arrival, we were told it would be a 5 minute wait until a table is available; even though we had a confirmed booking. We waited approximately 15-20 minutes before we were offered a seat at one of the high-bench spots, of which there were droppings and spillages from previous meals which weren't cleaned up.

We were told that menus would be brought to us, however we waited 15 minutes before I got up and had to ask for some menus myself at the bar. After we decided what to order. I had to wait in line and finally I was able to place my order 45 minutes after our scheduled booking. We ordered a vietnamese coffee, some beetroot juice, and some still water to have while we waited.

We took note of the tables around us who ordered after us, and they were receiving their hot coffees and cold beverages even before we were served still water. I kindly requested the host to check where our drinks were as we presumed they had forgotten us, upon her return she said hot and cold drinks were being made on separate lines and there would be another 5 minutes for the juice. This felt bizarre to us as the table next to us had a combination of hot and cold drinks, and both of our drinks were cold ones.

We were excited to order the soufflé pancakes, however when ordering we were told it would be approximately a 40 minute wait. This is fine as I was happy to be notified, so I ordered something else to receive sooner. Our food took approximately 30 minutes to come out anyways. At the time our food came, we still had not received our drinks and I had to get up for a 2nd time to request our water which we never got, at this point I kindly requested the food server to check on our ice coffee and juice and we started our meals. We were hoping the meals would redeem too long wait times and poor service as we saw them online to be quite vibrant, both meals were fairly bland the the rice was overcooked, gluggy, and the beef in the beef bowl looked grey and fairly unappetizing.

My partner couldnt finish her meal, and I received my ice coffee half way through my meal (45 minutes after ordering), and we still hadn't received our beetroot juice. Unfortunately the ice coffee was quite sour so I didn't finish that and we decided that after being here for 90 minutes that we didn't want to wait around for the juice. So I decided to go up and request a refund for the juice as we were finished and wanted to leave.

At this point nearly every table there had come in after us, as I was going to the front counter to get my refund, another table was being served a plate of juices; one being beetroot juice. So a nice final kick before we left. The counter staff was apologetic about the juice, so I thank her for that.

However, we both left feeling like we were neglected, taking over an hour to receive our food from the time we booked, and almost 90 minutes to receive our coffee from the time we booked. We can't remember a time where we had experienced such a poor overall service and we were really disappointed. We were really excited to the try this place and ultimately we regret going. I will be recommending my friends and family to reconsider going to...

This is by far the worst hospitality experience I have ever experienced. If I could give this place no stars I honestly would.

Bad service, RUDE staff, average quality food, not a clean environment.

First arriving we were told to there was a 15-20min wait for a table, but after being forgotten about and having to ask front counter for an update we were finally seated.

After being told that the food would take a set time to make (fair enough), we waited the 30 minutes for it to make it to the table. After the 30 minutes had passed, we decided to check with wait staff on an update.

A server came to the table to say that in fact it had only been 25 minutes that there were 15 tickets before us, and that she had already informed us of the wait time. We attempted to explain that we were not arguing with the time it takes to prepare the meal, but instead were just double checking as it had now been a significant time since we ordered. The server immediately became aggressive with her tone saying that she would show us the ticket proving the time of order. We again said that isn’t the information we are arguing with and to just bring the food as soon as it’s ready.

We then sat back to continue waiting but it wasn’t two minutes before she was back at the table insisting on showing us the ticket. Her tone was absolutely disgusting and she then began saying if we continued we would be asked to leave (all over confirming the status of our food). The fact that a member of staff continued to come to the table and harass my elderly mother and myself as we were waiting for food is disgusting.

What is worse is that the food arrived to the table a few minutes after the ordeal, we were unable to enjoy it as the server then continued to sit with other staff point and make comments as we were attempting to eat.

I don’t believe under the circumstances of a 30 minute wait (with no update) that it is unreasonable to check on the progress of food, and to be spoken to like this in front of other customers at the table is...
