Hence, I used to order coffee here 4-6 times per week. When I used to go here, the coffee was great. Most of the staff understood how to authentically make an espresso machiato.
However, all these stafd members evacuated Brisbane in 2023, for reasons unbeknownst to me. I've heard the new managers are from Bondi. So, the prices, portions and service has altered according to a bewildering, systematic pattern.
This overhaul was much needed. The food here was too dairy and greasy for me to digest. The pasta was basically a box of penne from Coles mixed with an Alfredo sauce from a packet, which they charged 31.00. I only ate two spoonfuls and insisted the unsightly and odorous mess be removed. My Italian boyfriend also wasn't impressed.
I haven't bothered to view the new menu. I wonder if it's similar to this restaurant's other location in Bondi? It's near The Westfield Shopping Centre.
Maybe, I'm an anomaly because I actually like the taste of coffee, but just specific types. I particularly like espresso beans roasted in Costa Rica and Ethiopia. Hence, I find it incredulous baristas dilute espresso with gallons of milk and water. The coffee is almost indistinguishable with the indulgent addition of all these other liquids. However, Italia Lane consistently grasped the concept of an espresso macchiato. Hence, I could never fault my coffee orders.
Conversely, the food is NOT authentically Italian, but a Western version of Mediterranean inspired cuisine. However, I don't know any restaurants in Australia which feature authentic Italian cuisine.
Analogously, I don't know of any restaurants in Australia which offer REAL Ukrainian cuisine. The only time I've ever feasted on Ukranian cuisine was at my grandmother's. It's tragic she died last month. However, this escalating international WARFARE does impact everyone, regardless of...
Read moreItalia Lane – Fortitude Valley Finally made it to Italia Lane after hearing all the hype, and it did not disappoint! Located in the heart of Fortitude Valley, this Italian gem is the perfect blend of great food, fantastic service, and a buzzing atmosphere. From the start, the service was spot on. The manager was a total character, he was funny and super friendly and our server was just as warm and welcoming. It felt like you were dining with family, which is exactly what you want when you're craving authentic Italian vibes. The restaurant was pumping on a Saturday night, so it was a bit loud, but still easy enough to have a conversation. We started with cocktails and then moved on to a bottle of Cantine Russo Contrada Crasa bianco from the Etna region, absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with the food. Food-wise, we kicked off with zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese and black pepper. Lovely, but could’ve used a little more salt (personal preference, maybe). The highlight, though, was the slow-cooked octopus with tomato concasse, olives, and potatoes—it was to die for. Tender, flavour-packed, and super comforting. For mains, we went with barramundi with fennel and olives. The fish was cooked perfectly and went so well with the wine. We also had a side of broccolini, which was fresh and crisp, a perfect match for the dish. They also have a great selection of pizza and pasta, that I will be keen to come and try but honestly, the fish was on another level. Dessert was a chocolate pistachio tart. It was nice, but a bit dry, it could have used some double cream or ice cream to balance it out and make it a show stopper dessert! Overall, Italia Lane is a must-visit if you're in the Valley. Friendly service, fantastic food, and a lively atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes...
Read moreMy daughter chose Italia Lane for her 23rd Birthday dinner. 6 of us all had a very, very good meal. The owner or manager was a very friendly, happy and helpful guy. My partner had her $62 steak and it literally melted in your mouth ( yes I pinched a few mouthfuls). It comes med-rare and I like mine at least med to well, but it was absolutely beautiful thick cut of meat. I had the double cooked chicken and potatoe and it was very good. The kids had some pasta ( sorry not sure what is was called) and they all loved it. Good price Makers Mark at $12. $528 for 6 people with cocktails is not too bad I suppose. Average $88 each. My only thing to pick on that they could improve on would be that waitresses don't walk inside empty handed several times, not clearing our tables or asking if we would like more drinks. I couldn't catch Eye contact about 5 times that they walked by and had to say excuse me to get their attention..All staff were friendly though, so only a little nit pik'.
Maybe a non fancy type of spagetti bolognese on the munu for the fussy kids wouldn't hurt to be on the menu I think.
We would go back and definitely recommend to anyone to give them a try. Anyway, give Italia Lane a try.
