Tried out the Korean fried chicken focussed menu at KCS Chicken by Kimchi Cheese Smile. Our group shared the following: The Burning Bird, $13.90 - a spicy chicken burger; with chilli mayo, KCS hot sauce, jalapeno, lettuce Boneless Fried Chicken - Original, $17.40 - crispy battered chicken thigh fillet (hormone free) Boneless Fried Chicken - Korean Sweet Chilli$17.90 Half kilo Mid wings - Smoky BBQ, $17.40 Half kilo Mid wings - Secret Soy, $17.40 Kimchi Cheese Fries, $9.90 - beer battered chips served with house made kimchi, gochujang aioli, cheese sauce, tasty cheddar, onion KCS Green Salad, $9.90 - baby gem, apple, celery, pumpkin seed, KCS house dressing

If you want to dine in it's currently walk-ins only (no reservations). Contactless ordering and payment is available by scanning a table-specific QR code. Our food was served about 25 minutes after ordering, and separate plates were proactively provided to facilitate sharing.

I had heard things about the Burning Bird and shared this with two others who were also keen to brave the heat. Turns out it wasn't much of a concern - tasty, and with a fillet about twice the size of the bun, but the burn was minor. Once is probably enough for this flavour, but I'd be keen to try other variations of their burgers, including the new flavour "Korean fried chicken burger".

The rest of the meal was all pretty enjoyable and I preferred the wings to the boneless pieces. My picks for flavours were the Korean sweet chilli and the secret soy. I wouldn't say they're the best in my books but a solid contender, and I'd be happy to return for more. Regretted not getting the misugaru shake this time so I'll have to get it next time. Also hope there'll be a chance to try the full Kimchi Cheese Smile...

Lovely date night spot, simple ambiance, upbeat music playing all night. Service was wonderful, friendly, understated.

Ate:

Pork Mandu (Korean for dumpling), delicious, full of flavour, perfectly cooked, soy sauce and spring onions alongside made a perfect start to the evening.

Wagyu kalbi, short ribs, or more specifically the meat between the ribs (intercostal) that had been cooked sous vide for 16 hours, and was paired with potato puree & kimchi, it was phenomenal, incredible flavour bite after bite.

Spicy pork, with mushrooms & bean sprouts. Amazing charcoal smoke flavours, and juicy af.

Tomato, kimchi, cheese: good for wiping your palate clean then eating more of the beef and pork!

Dessert -- Vanilla ice cream, perilla seed cookie, dark chocolate, honey, ginseng: The cookie tasted like shortbread, the dark chocolate was amazing...it was a really well balanced dessert, not too sweet, not quite savoury.

Drank:

Citrus Soju cocktail -- it was half price this night, I can't remember why, but I do know that's why we ordered it. Fresh orange, grapefruit, soju + soda water, served with shot glasses = good times.

Balter IPA & a glass of Tommy Ruff Clarott.

Overall:

Amazing! Will be back, and I'll bring friends and family next time, a new hot spot in Brisbane, I'm...

PSA: My partner and I have eaten here 6 times and out of those 6 times we have only ever got our food within 20 minutes ONCE when dinning in every other time we have had take away the wait time as been extremely long. On Saturday we ordered food at 6pm & it said it would be ready at 6:38pm we arrived at 6:50pm because we know it ALWAYS takes longer but our food wasn’t ready til 7:25pm!! Thats 45 minutes later & a long time to wait in the car/ outside! However I won’t deducted a star because the food is worth 5 stars & I know what it’s like to own a small business and how important google reviews is but please think of a better system if you know you will be behind call the customers beforehand and just be honest and let them know! It’s better then waiting as people who have to wait longer get more critical on the food.

All the chicken burgers here are AMAZING, I also do a menu hack & sometimes get the normal burger but get them to cover the chicken in the secret soy sauce and it’s the bomb!!! The sweet potato honey fries are so good & my partner and I fight over them!! My partner loves the chicken burger with Parmesan & we both love the Korean sauce chicken burger! The chicken out of the 6 Times we have been here has Always been consistent, crunchy and...

Quality fried chicken by Kimchi Cheese smile aka KCS in East Brisbane near the Gabba is a treat! Set in a cosy Euro-chic dining room is the perfect setting to catch up and enjoy the buzz of people enjoying their food. The staff were friendly and informative. They advised us that there would be a 50minute wait for food as we entered. We settled for a cocktail and cider at the bar which was great as we could see the action of the chefs and staff work busily filling orders. We were able to order online which was an easy process. However no cheers, to start the evening off - unfortunately while understandably they were busy and a cider is easier to serve than a cocktail, it was a much longer wait. My cocktail didn’t arrive until we were seated at the table whilst the cider was provided at the bar. However their food
. The boneless fried chicken was great, I’d definitely order one with the side of sauce next time. The “oh my cheese burger” was delicious! A cheese chicken burger covered in smoky BBQ, lettuce, pickles (yummm), red cheddar, cheese sauce, and parmesan delivered a savoury cheesy taste, and was melting in my mouth but with a reminder of the super crisp chicken crunch and the super soft bun. Delish! I would highly recommend the chicken burger!

Korean Fried Chicken Burger: Biting into the Korean Fried Chicken Burger is a symphony of flavors. The chicken is crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside, with a spicy kick that tantalizes the taste buds. The unique blend of Gochujang aioli and Korean sweet chilli sauce used in the coating adds depth to each bite, making it not just tasty, but deliciously memorable. Kimchi Cheese Fries: The Kimchi Cheese Fries are a revelation. The perfectly fried potatoes topped with melted cheese and tangy, spicy kimchi create a fusion of flavors that’s both comforting and exciting. It’s a dish that’s so good, it’s almost addictive. Milkshakes: As for the Misugaru and Coffee milkshakes, they’re nothing short of incredible. Thick, creamy, and rich, each sip is a decadent experience. Whether it’s classic vanilla or a more adventurous flavor, these milkshakes are yummy to the last drop, leaving you completely satisfied. This combination of dishes makes for an unforgettable meal that’s sure to please anyone looking for a taste adventure!
