Warning: Seating issues!
EDIT: I'm utterly disappointed with the management's response. The tone lacks empathy and downplays my experience, shifting the blame to me for not seeing signs or receiving warnings from staff.
During my three interactions with staff (register, serving drinks, and food), no one warned me about the Kookaburra. Signs were not visible on my way to the table or around me. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking it was a one-time occurrence. However, when my partner found the warning in the toilet (just before leaving), and considering the dismissive response, I realised my concerns were valid.
My issue isn't just the lack of signage but also the staff's failure to warn. As someone who also works in hospitality, I expected more. I rarely visit toilets during meals, so how would I know about the warning?
The incident left me frightened, embarrassed, and traumatised as some other patrons saw me scream during the incident and laughed. The kookaburra's aggressive behavior was alarming, and staff should proactively warn customers upon serving food, especially in outdoor areas or even at the register when they get your table number (and know it's located outdoors).
Rather than acknowledging shortcomings, I received a 'free meal' offer as if I'm seeking compensation rather than genuine improvement.
I hope you reconsider your approach and prioritise customer safety and satisfaction.
FIRST REVIEW: I've been trying cafes around Brisbane and we happen to be close to Mt. Gravatt so I thought of trying this cafe which was recommended by a friend. When we came in, we were promptly welcomed by the lady in the register. Had a good chat upon ordering and just before payment I was asked which table I'd like. I told her I'd like the table at the corner at the far end as it was the least busy area. Less did I know about the aggressive kookaburras in the outdoor seating that literally and I mean whilst you are about to take a bite of your food – just fearlessly swoop in and steal whatever they could get their beaks on, in our case the big piece of sausage. I was pretty unhappy because the bird flapped its wings on my drink and destroyed it as well. Could have appreciated a heads up upon ordering or even when they served the food as the kookaburra just landed on the top rail in front of us. Would have been nice if the lady server warned us that it's not your friendly neighborhood bird, that way we could have moved indoors.
I appreciate the service (apart from the missed warning) and the view wasn't too bad but the whole event just ruined the atmosphere for me and I didn't really enjoy my food after.
P.s. There were no proper warning posters except for the one in the toilet. Had my company not went to the toilet before we left, I would've never seen the sign (photo attached) and sadly was only aware just after...

Read moreWe have elderly friends who are housebound due to health problems so once a month we take them for a drive and lunch somewhere. The day prior to our outing, using your website's online booking system I booked an inside table for 12.30 pm. We hadn't been there before and were really looking forward to having lunch together while enjoying the view. On arrival we were informed (with indifference and without explanation) that the only food available was what was left in the glass display cabinet. Our choices were very limited - salmon croissant, bacon & egg burger, small pumpkin salad and a minimal variety of small cakes. I spoke to another staff member saying we were booked for lunch and would like to order from the menu but was told again that we only had the food in the cabinet to choose from. If it had been any other cafe we would have left and found somewhere else for lunch but knowing the purpose behind the employment of your staff we hesitantly decided to stay. Despite booking an inside table, we were given an outside table which was partly in the sun even though there was a table inside that was available. After asking about the inside table we were told we could use it. The small items we ordered only required mild heating, but after waiting for nearly half an hour we needed to inquire as to its whereabouts. This prompted someone to do something and it finally arrived a few minutes later. While we were waiting, several meals with eggs, chips etc were served to customers at other tables - obviously OFF THE MENU! When we again asked why we couldn’t order from the menu another staff member told us that most of the kitchen staff were off sick with COVID! Why were some customers able to order meals and others couldn’t? Unfortunately our experience was such that, not only due to the food but also the attitude of the staff, we won’t be back. We probably should have taken our "take-out" outside and sat on the bench seats to enjoy the city views. Very...
