FAT TAI 肥仔 — Restaurant in Brisbane City

⭐ 1 Star Review I had a really disappointing experience at Fat Tai in Mount Gravatt. My partner and I ordered some snacks for takeaway and sat down while waiting for our order. As soon as it arrived and we were getting ready to leave, a staff member came over and told us we weren’t allowed to sit because we hadn’t paid for “dine-in.” Apparently, sitting for a few minutes while waiting for food you already paid for is a problem here.

The tone and attitude were unnecessarily rude, and the way it was handled made the whole experience unpleasant. The food itself wasn’t much better — hard to chew, and the boba drink had an odd texture and strange taste.

If the restaurant has strict rules about sitting, maybe put up a clear sign so customers aren’t embarrassed or scolded for something they didn’t know. Overall, poor service, poor communication, and disappointing food. Definitely not somewhere I’d recommend...

We went for Lunch and arrive at 12'ish. Then ordered 2 dishes: a normal Braised Meat Rice, and on the wall they have "Today's Special" Salt & Pepper Calamari/Squid. The young Receptionist looks like she had a bad night. It took a while for the Rice to arrive, and there didn't seem to have any meat. Delivered by another lady. Five minutes later, she came back with cash for us, and told us they run out of the Squid! We were absolutely stunned.. Why didn't they offer an alternative? The whole time we have waited patiently and didn't hassle them. We were so shocked and couldn't bring ourself to communicate with them. It's despicable! We quietly eat and run....

The shop was nice and clean. I popped in and rang the bell at the counter, but no one came out approx 5 mins. The kitchen crews could see me through the window, but didn’t bother. It would have been nicer to just say hello to a customer and notify that someone would be coming to serve. A female staff popped out from the kitchen without saying any word, so I just placed my order.

Selected one of the recommended dishes, a stir fry chicken with dark soy and basil. It was tender and flavourful; good looking and delicious. The meal was served within less than 10 mins.
