Restaurant Review: Andonis Mt Gravatt vs. Andonis Stratton
I recently visited Andonis in Mt Gravatt, expecting the same high-quality experience as its Stratton counterpart. Unfortunately, the visit was underwhelming, primarily due to slow service and lack of attentiveness.
From the start, service was sluggish, with staff appearing unresponsive to customer needs. I ordered a matcha latte with ice cream, only to receive the matcha without the ice cream. When I pointed this out, the staff hastily scooped the ice cream into a warm glass fresh from the dishwasher, separating it from the drink entirely. The whole point of ordering matcha with ice cream is to enjoy the flavors blended together, not served as two unrelated components. Even after requesting the ice cream to be added directly to the matcha, it returned once again in a separate glass—an entirely avoidable frustration.
The delays weren’t limited to just drinks. Food took an unreasonably long time to arrive, compounding the disappointment. The lack of proactive service made the experience feel far from welcoming.
This was a stark contrast to Andonis at Stratton, where service has always been prompt, friendly, and genuinely customer-focused. Staff at Stratton are attentive, proactive, and happy to accommodate requests without hesitation, making for a consistently pleasant dining experience.
If Andonis Mt Gravatt wants to uphold the brand’s reputation, they must improve service efficiency, responsiveness, and attention to detail. At the moment, the difference between the two locations is night and day. Stratton sets the bar high, while Mt Gravatt falls...
Read moreI was delighted to see Andonis open a café+bar in our neighbourhood! The old Scurrs building in Mount Gravatt has been turned into a medical hub with naturally a café to to support the visitors. We went up on a Saturday morning and fortunately for us were able to get a table without having booked. (It got really busy about 20 minutes later). You can order at your table through the QR code or with the staff at the counter. Service was great, friendly and polite, and we did not wait long for food and coffees. The menu is I think pretty standard Andonis which means great variety and excellent food. My partner in breakfast had the Eggs your way, 2 poached eggs with bacon, sourdough toast, hash browns and tomato relish (+ extra mushrooms). He said it was very good and his eggs were perfectly poached. I had the G'Morning bagel, with bacon, fried egg, cheese, aioli and relish. Delicious. With a side of supa crunchy fries, yum. We washed these down with a skinny flat white and a mocha, both very good indeed. All in all, a very tasty breakfast with fast service. I would advise booking a table on the weekend to make sure you are not disappointed. The café premises are quite stark and noisy at the moment but once they are settled I am sure Andonis will be a riot of plants and a popular meeting hub. The car park was not quite full; I gather that soon the 2P will be enforced with the new barriers being made operational. There is also on...
Read moreExpensive/ Ordinary Food / Hidden Charges. I don’t mind paying money for good food, but when a bagel, croissant and 1 coffee costs $73.86 …I feel pretty ripped off!! 25% public holiday surcharge, $1.52 eftpos surcharge, $1.87 to add BBQ sauce & 50c surcharge for sweetener in coffee. Dropped in this morning with the understanding that the place would be busy given the Easter Weekend, but pleasantly surprised when we were given a table straight away. Placed our orders quite quickly… when ordering my coffee (skinny latte 1/2 sugar), waiter suggested I try their “new sweetener” which was “way better than sugar” (at no stage was it mentioned that there would be a charge for sweetener). Coffee came out and tasted weird, super sweet with a Stevia after taste (first disappointment). We sat there for quite a long time and watched every table around us have their meals delivered while we continued wait. Once I questioned the wait staff, it seemed our meals had been forgotten and not placed. Eventually our order came out and meals were average at best and certainly not worthy of a $30+ cost each. I questioned the bill and was THEN told of the 25% surcharge. I accept most places charge a public holiday surcharge but that seems excessive.
After this visit.. won’t be back, as there are far more superior places to eat which are...
