Melrose is by far our favourite restaurant in Brisbane and deservedly so 🥰. The moment you walk through the doors you're treated like a VIP. Anna remembers who we are everytime and is incredibly accommodating with our requests for our usual table. My partner and I had our first date there and we come back every season to celebrate our birthdays, anniversary and any special event and we leave feeling spoilt every time 😍. Last night it was our pre-Christmas celebration and what better way to celebrate the festive season than with "Trust The Chef"! what follows is a degustation adventure like no other... Scallop Betel Leaf (a one-bite party-in-your-mouth! 🎉), Natural Shucked Oysters w. Lime (who would have thought that simply swapping the usual lemon for lime would put such a refresing twist to a natural oyster?!?) and Red Nahm Jim & Fried Shallots, Hiramasa Kingfish w. Squid Ink Tapioca Crackers (deliciously fresh and zingy with the crispy texture of the cracker; yummo! 😋), Beef Short Rib (melt in your mouth!! w. A subtle slap in the face of Tom yum dressing, OMG! Incredibly delicious), Roast Soy-Calamansu Chicken w. an Asian Herb Salad & Chilli Coriander Dressing (OMG! Shut the front door! Such a simple dish with the most complex, impactful flavours. The chicken was soooo tender, moist and packed with these incredible flavours. Reminds me of Hainese Chicken with a kick) and this came with a side of Chargrilled Broccolini (yum,yum, yum... this dish would convert the most devoted carnivore 😉) and an Asian Slaw (which after everything we'd just eaten, we didn't think was necessary, but still tasty). The whole evening was an incredible night of deliciously spicy, fresh Asian flavours, first class service and creative cocktails (Love me Lychee! My favourite! 😋). We have been coming to Melrose for a few years now and EVERY SINGLE time the menu is different and more incredible than the last! A bit hard to find at first being upstairs with no signage other than a small sign on the footpath which I somehow managed to walk past while looking up at the buildings! However it was worth to search. Staff were really lovely and attentive without being overbearing, made great suggestions re both food and drink and also happy to have a laugh with us. I usually want to try everything at a restaurant and so will often default to a banquet option if available the first time I go somewhere so I can taste a little of a lot of things. There are two banquet options here with one being vegetarian. My friend I was dining with is veggo, and while I am often happy to take a vegetarian option, I didn't really fancy that one as there were other things I wanted to try more. Given this, when our waiter suggested the banquet we said no due to there being one vegetarian and one not - he advised that as long as we both got a banquet they were happy to do one of each for us. In itself this is a great offering. During our chat my friend mentioned that she did actually eat fish. About 5mins later our waiter came back and offered her the option of having the prawn appetizer (from the none veg banquet) rather than the one listed on the veg banquet. This was a very thoughtful and attentive touch that was much appreciated. The food was really really good. The none-veg banquet doesn't really have any options that you won't find at any Thai place, but the dishes here are really well executed, beautifully flavoured and good quality ingredients. The Veg option was visually beautiful and my friend tells me was also delicious. We both had to leave some of the final course as there is a lot of food here, but we were both sad to do so as it was very nice. Highly recommend...
