Honestly I've rated this place before and gave it 5 stars, but after watching the painful decline of motto motto, I've had to go back and change my review.
Motto Motto holds a special place in my heart, I used to love her like my own son, but now, now she don't show me any love no more. Portion sizes have shrunk dramatically, prices have increased, and overall food quality is in the dumps. I get that inflation does that - but paying damn near $20 for what feels like half a serving, maybe 5 of the tiniest, most frail bits of shrivelled up chicken, or weird plastic beef ontop of the deceptively mediocre amount of rice (I swear their bowls are visual illusions) has unfortunately become the norm.
Don't get me started on that weird * ramen broth too. Idk whos getting too excited in the sauce but man is it THICK. If it sits for more than like 2 minutes (which it's absolutely going to if you wanna wait for your partner to eat) it actually turns into the most viscous, gloopy sludge I've ever tasted. Could genuinely mistake it for yoghurt at times. So disappointing considering the red ramen and red udon (before the price cuts attacked and they got rid of the MEAT but upped the price) were some of my favourite menu items.
I talked earlier about waiting for your food too - and I swear it takes soooooo long now, you've gotta wait atleast 20 mins to get some chicken on rice, like its not hard. Not a fault to the staff either, you can tell from the absolute state of some of their tables that it isn't their fault, it's definitely poor management, not getting enough people or hours to keep the place clean. Speaking of cleanliness, I've had 3 separate instances of getting hair in my food recently, I feel like the old Motto Motto wouldn't have done that to me. Thankfully the issues always been quickly resolved, but having to make them whip up more of that sad chicken is so unreasonable considering its a waste of everybody's time and money.
I generally would never write this long of a review, for this sort of thing, but I actually care about motto motto chermside. Having her push away from me like this has my heart hurting and I KNOW that it can be good again. I don't know why it's gone down this route, choosing to have a mid-off with fishbowl or whatever instead of staying peak.
All this criticism isn't without praise - the staff are all really great, and I obviously don't have anything against them. They're doing their best to cook my food and I don't blame them one bit for getting cheap, unusual ingredients, for what they have, they serve quite well. I don't mind the tables being dirty, I just wish they'd put more hours into people that can clean them more frequently. Also I love that you guys still do student free drinks, I honestly don't think I'd eat there if it wasn't for the free lychee tea.
I hope you guys can do better in the future and get my 5 star rating back. I genuinely don't mind getting charged $20 for a good quality product, I'd much rather that, as opposed to paying $18.95 for mediocre or sometimes straight bad food. Fix your portion sizes (THE MEAT) fix your mucus broth and change...
Read moreI enjoy going to Motto Motto for a quick and easy meal. The last time I ventured there I had my parents and one daughter. We got there at 5 pm to avoid the crowd and guarantee a table. There were already people there eating when we arrived but a booth was free and we sat down. My father chose the Wagyu beef and a salad, Mum went for the classic noodles with extra noodles and pork belly, my daughter went for a chicken karaage roll, and I wanted soft-shelled crab and Teriyaki chicken wings. Once I finished ordering at the counter, it was only about five minutes and the food was being brought out to us. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was quick and friendly. The food was delicious. I have no complaints.
Update Saturday 23 June 2018 This isn't the first time we've been to Motto Motto. Motto Motto is a quirky quick service kind of place with a Japanese bent. I'm here in Brisbane for a week to spend some time with my parents and I know they like the food here. We're all trying not to over do things so Mum asks for a classic ramen noodles dish with pork plus a side of gyoza dumplings. Dad asks for his usual bowl of wagyu beef with rice. I go for two sides, viz., JFC Chicken Karaage and soft shelled crab. Mum said she was a little disappointed that the sauce with the gyoza dumplings had changed. It was thinner and not as strong. Likewise, Dad sad the sauce he had with his rice bowl was thinner and didn't stick to the beef. I was pretty happy with my chicken and crab. Both bowls were nicely cooked and full of flavour. The service was quick and friendly and we were in and out within about 45 minutes. We didn't felt rushed and we were able to sit comfortably and chat without feeling any pressure to move on. There was a steady flow of guests even at 'seniors' dinner time. I expect it gets a lot busier later in the evening. I'm happy to recommend Motto Motto at...
Read moreWe visited Motto Motto while in the area, having never dined there before.
The premises are spacious and inviting, and there are ample tables and booths on offer. We opted for a corner booth to maximise privacy and were pleased with our choice. Even a couple moving into the neighbouring booth offered minimal interference.
Once seated, we browsed the menu and ordered via QR. Meals were promptly served and our choices - Karaage Donburi, Unagi Donburi, and pork belly croquettes were hot and fresh. Miso soup was complimentary with the meals, so that was an unexpected bonus.
Unfortunately, although the meals were satisfactory and enjoyed, there was no 'wow factor'. The croquettes had no distinguishable presence of pork belly whatsoever, and the Unagi was presented in a forgettable sauce that permeated the rice. My wife did enjoy her Karaage, however. Her only small criticism was the size and shape of the bowls, which made it difficult to mix the food and access the lower ingredients.
Service was mediocre, and we were not acknowledged or greeted when arriving. Each meal was then served by various hostesses, who merely stated the description in order to identify the correct diner. In fact, the first real interaction was upon leaving, when one staff member thanked us and wished us a good night.
Overall, Motto Motto was decent, providing adequate meals and prompt service. As the meals were fairly generic and the customer interaction lacklustre, however, we're...
