Found this gem on the weekend. And what a lovely spot it is. Both inside and outside seating options with plenty of car parks onsite or on the main road.
Inside we were seated, facing right infront of the kitchen and seeing the chef and his team do their magic which I always love seeing the hustle and bustle of the kitchen.
The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered the kimchi fritters W/ poached eggs and the equivalent of a big breakkie with add on chorizo.
Kimchi fritters was definitely a great take on a classic Korean side dish and had such a strong and deep flavour- definitely recommend! Only thing I would suggest is to add mushrooms or a less intense side dish flavour as the main act is quite intense.
The big breakkie was everything you could hope for and the stand out in it was the home made potatoe cakes/hash browns with the side chutney. I added chorizo as why the hell not and eventually couldn't finish it which was a generous side. It came with plenty of bacon so unless your super hungry, don't get another meat side 😅 however knowing what I know now, would definitely get mushroom added which was what I usually see in a big breakkie. The grilled tomatos was just so tasty which was a huge surprised! They were super hot and the grilled side perfectly- normally I hate it and have it to be removed as most places that do it, have it cold and soggy!
The smoothie was tasty however it definitely lacked the cold/chilled that it needed, especially more, on a 30 degree day which found it lacking. We asked for additional ice and was politely given by the staff. Something for the team to work on as a easy fix.
The staff are super attentive and friendly and are quite quick. They appear super happy to work and seem to enjoy their roles which is always a great vibe.
Lastly, a slight err in the experience. As we were waiting for out food and during it, we couldn't help noticed the tray of muffins on the kitchen bench. It's was in the open unlike some of their baked goods, behind glass cabinet and the several flies landing on it and around. It definitely wasn't a postive sight, especially when you're eating. Afterwards, when finishing, I absolutely complimented the one of kitchen team staff (head chef?) and brought up the fly thing and it appears they're aware, so hopefully next time, it may have some more thoughts put into it then leaving it out, to the flies to enjoy
Will be back for...
Read moreI’ve spent a few weekends in Toowong over the years, and watched a few games of rugby at Wests. This has also meant a few coffee catch ups, breakfasts, brunches and lunches among the brick arches of Pitch and Fork.
This time, our motley group of ten descended on the place, and I was pleased that it wasn’t as busy as it can be. We all got a park easily and got straight into a round of coffees while we looked at the menu.
I’ve done the Egg and Bacon Roll a few times and hit the Benedict, but I know a chef who comes over to my house for breakfast and we make Benedict together, so now I can’t bring myself to order it out. It would be unfair on the kitchen, as it will never be as good as Neil’s.
On this visit, I went with the “Eggs Your Way” - and this time “my way” was scrambled, with pesto, chili and parmesan.
It said chili oil, but it looked more like a few bits of actual chili in the end. It was a bit ordinary, but it got the job done and ultimately we were all just happy to be together, laughing and chatting and stuffing our faces in a relaxed environment.
The others went for a range of things: the Big Breakfast, a Wagyu Cheeseburger, someone else’s eggs their way were poached eggs - we all added sides: avocado, hash browns - it was a good time.
The coffee was good, and usually is, so I had a couple while we were there. While Pitch and Fork isn’t always perfection on a plate, it has community, comfort, good coffee in relaxed surroundings.
If you’re in the neighborhood, it is definitely worth a visit. I’ll be back and I’ll enjoy the coffee, the food and always look back positively on the memories and time spent here with...
Read moreAwesome food! I almost gave this place after the first visit when it first opened ~yrs ago. Then was convinced that they may have upped the ante a bit. So I went there with my family for a second round. I was shocked. I couldn't believe I'd let this gem slide passed me after years of avoidance. The food was spectacular, and the service was good, although I think a couple more wait staff would be good, but in the current crisis, I can understand a shortage of staff.
The only downfall I can moan about is the pepper and salt grinders! They are labelled with tacky sticky tape and a note saying "pick me up from the bottom" which I, nor anyone else would notice unless studying them without first picking them up, leaving pepper corns or salt crystals strewn across the table. . Being at the Cafe for 1 hr and it happened not only to us, but 2 other tables. The wait staff said it was a very common daily occurrence (as you'd imagine). For the cost of the wasted pepper & salt they're probably hammering through I would imagine a new set of grinders would save them money within a week or 2!
I will definitely be visiting again! Delicious!
But for the love of God, please buy some new...
