10-out-10 for this Indian restaurant!
I popped into Saffron Cuisine for their lunch special today after reading several 5-star reviews.
The reviews were spot on as my lunch today was excellent.
The restaurant offers a $10 vegetarian lunch (rice + a vegetarian dish) and a $12 non-veg one (rice + a non-veg dish). I opted for the latter and chose CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA to go with the rice. I added NAAN BREAD and CHAI TEA to my order.
My meal arrived after a short wait, and it was a generous serve, especially with the addition of the naan. The CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA was delicious - beautifully-cooked, tender chicken in flavoursome gravy/curry, and the NAAN BREAD was SO good - light and fluffy, and charred on the edges. I really enjoyed the CHAI as well; it was as good as any I had tried in India. All round, a wonderful meal.
Saffron Cuisine has seating inside and under a covered terrace outside. Both options are fine.
I was happy to have a bit of a chat with the owner, who was friendly and accommodating, which is another reason for me to come back again. I'll try something from the standard menu next time as I'm sure it will be...
Read moreCame here with a few friends for a birthday. We got the Palek Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala and Madras, Lamb Korma, Garlic Naan, Gulab Jamun, Kaju Katli and a few mango lassis. The waiter was friendly, and food came out at a reasonable pace.
The curries were overall decent, but nothing outstanding. Portion sizes were comparable to most other indian restaurants. The garlic naan was quite good, being soft, pliable and flavourful, and really paired well with the curries. They were also quite well priced too so we were happy getting many baskets of it.
The Gulab Jamun were adequate, being a bit sweet for my taste. The Kaju Katli was a bit disappointing however, from both a taste and texture standpoint. The mango lassis were quite nice and had a strong mango flavour.
Overall, this place is alright if you want Indian food in the area, but nothing...
Read moreWe walked down to Saffron Cuisine (Barry Parade/Turbot St) on a quiet Saturday night in late January. We live on Ann Street and had watched the signage etc go up - so we knew the restaurant had not been opened long. On arrival we were told they were BYO so my husband walked home (5 mins away) and got our drinks. While I waited I noticed 3 Uber Eats guys coming and going for delivery - good sign. Anyway we ordered the Onion Bajis, along with Kadhai Paneer, and Lamb Korma (all medium) and 2 plain naan. Loved every dish. Can recommend each of these dishes - succulent, fresh, rich and tasty. The heat was perfect for us, not too hot. The service was good. Very friendly people. Please give them a go. Ww will definitely be back. So good to have quality Indian food within walking distance. (Don't tell our regular delivery Indian...
