I rarely write a negative review for any restaurant but I think I should leave some notes for whoever tends to dine in here. We came in randomly on Sunday night and were suggesting to seat in front of chef, we had some conversation while the chef offered us not to look at the menu cuz he would like to surprise us with his designed courses based on our preferences. the food in general was just average, the sashimi wasn’t even fresh and there were not much options of sashimi as well. Furthermore, the weird part is the chef really hyped up himself about the quality of his ingredients and told us about how bad sushi train is also assumed most of those sushi train places used poor quality ingredients but honestly his food just a bit better than some grab n go sushi stalls. We totally shocked with the bill, with this price we could afford other fine dining sushi places, totally felt rip off, a small hand roll costs $17, a platter of Sashimi costs $72 only had around 18 pieces with limited variety of seafood and I didn’t the freshness of the sashimi, $225 for 2 ppl we weren’t even full, definitely never come back here In conclusion, staffs was friendly, place was cozy but exorbitant compared to its quality. If you are a sushi lover and know well about sushi, don’t ever come here

Outstanding family run restaurant which I’ve been coming back to for 33 years. The quality and consistency of the food is fantastic and the service is excellent. We are greeted like family every time and Jessica always remembers our favourite drinks and dishes. Head chef, DaShan, takes much pride in the quality of his food and service. My Mum is coeliac and they always cater to her needs with delicious, fresh, gluten free options. Their signature “Oyama Hand Roll” (pictured) is a must have - good luck stopping at just one!! Their Japanese special fried rice with pork belly is another must try. The teppanyaki bar is a lively and entertaining experience. The grilled Moreton Bay bugs or prawns in garlic butter and signature mustard sauce will leave you wanting to lick the bowl, they’re so good. I’ve lived in Japan, and I can honestly say that Oyama’s is the best Japanese restaurant I’ve found in Australia.

A M A Z I N G !!! I don’t normally take the time to write reviews but this one deserves it. Not only was the food insanely good but I had a great time having a chat with the chef. I’ve never been so well serviced by a chef like in this restaurant. To begin with, he is in front of you all the time, giving you suggestions and asking what your preferences are and then he comes up with something great. I loved the Shrimp 🍤 Temaki (and I normally go for raw fish like tuna and salmon) I had 2 shrimp temakis lol 😝 anyways I had taken my book cause I was by myself. However I didn’t read a single work hehe the conversation went from Brisbane 🇦🇺 to New Zealand 🇳🇿 , China 🇨🇳 , Japan 🇯🇵 , States 🇺🇸 , Brazil 🇧🇷 and so on. Thanks chef Dasham “I hope I got this right hehe” see you next time 🕰️

READ THIS BEFORE YOU DINE HERE I've never left a restaurant review, but after thinking about what happened here for a few days I hope I can stop someone from experiencing what my girlfriend and I went through over the weekend. I can safely say Oyama was the most uncomfortable dining experience I've ever had.

We arrived at the restaurant around 7pm to some chef's smoking directly in front of the doors, with around 4 people actually dining inside. We were greeted and sat at the sushi bar, and after a few minutes of being seated, a chef came in (once he had finished his cigarette) and shouted hello at us from across the restaurant. He demanded we get up and move one seat to the left so he could be directly in front of us when we were eating (literally less than a metre in front of us the entire time).

We opened our menus and within one minute of having them, the chef told us "i know exactly what you want, don't read the menu, give them to me now". We thought this was a bit strange but trusted him, and he went on to very, very slowly make two hand rolls and sashimi.

The entire time he commented on my girlfriends appearance (it would have been at least 6 or 7 comments) and kept asking for our ages and details of our relationship. When he gave her the hand roll he asked her to look at him in the eyes and 'open her mouth nice and wide' to eat the roll. This was clearly a sexual joke that he didn't understand we did not find amusing at all.

Make sure you read the other 1 star reviews about the 'creepy owner' to put this guy into context. I am not exaggerating in the slightest.

The restaurant had 0 atmosphere and I understand why now. We were desperate to leave after he had recited his list of 'australian girls names that are always pretty' (he made sure to include my girlfriends name in the list, what a nice guy!).

When we finally got to paying the bill, it came to 50 dollars, which is absolutely insane for the amount of food we got, and to add to that we didn't know the prices because he literally wouldn't let us look at the menu.

The girl who rang through our bill hadn't even been involved in our conversation or heard it, and was apologising for the chef's comments and 'hoped we didn't mind his traditional sense of humor'. This kind of thing must happen a lot given there was no one inside and employees immediately apologise to customers about his behaviour.

Do you enjoy persistent sexual comments about your partner from a chef that is one metre away from you, smells like cigarettes and demands to be included in your conversation? What about insanely overpriced restaurants with no one inside them? Then this is the...

My friend, son and I dined at this restaurant on Saturday night and were very disappointed by the service, wait time and exorbitant cost for average food. My friend speaks fluent Japanese but the Japanese chef refused to speak in Japanese to her. My son is learning Japanese so we thought it would be fun to order in the language. That was clearly a mistake. We then had to wait for approximately 15 minutes to be seated in a booth despite the restaurant only being a third full. The waitresses were unfriendly and did not coordinate so they both kept trying to take our drink orders. We ordered the sashimi platter, which was $72, and the grilled salmon teriyaki roll, which was $32, for my 10 year old. He was forced to wait 40 minutes for his roll due to one waitress forgetting the order and then a lengthy kitchen delay. The sashimi was ok but I found a dish scale in my kingfish, which was unpleasant. Dessert was good. The cocktails were nice but expensive. (Between $22 and $24) We were most disappointed by the service. We felt uncomfortable throughout the meal with the sushi chef trying to talk to us from behind the bar rather than coming to our table to address the order mixup. His daughter, one of the waitresses, was clearly annoyed with us for asking about the status of our order and was unfriendly and rude. For a meal that came to $253 we expected everything to be top notch. This is one of the worst dining experiences I've had when travelling. We left as soon as we'd...

I have held off writing this since May, but now that I have given time to think about it, it still is one of the most uncomfortable and inappropriate dining experiences we have had.

We made a large booking for a 16th Birthday, half of our group were 13 and under.

Our Chef, was the owners son. While the food he made was good, the conversations and topics he chose was so wildly inappropriate that we had no idea how to ask him to change subjects without the kids picking up on the nature of the conversation.

He is a partier, this young chef. He goes out to clubs in the valley constantly, and asked every adult at the table how often and how hard we party. He told us about an ex girlfriend who liked to drink and party too hard. He told us about his friends who run nightclubs and how most of their money comes from the drug sales through the club. He told us his dream was to open a nightclub and party.

Our youngest group member was 8 years old and when we left she asked us why the chef was asking us if we party. The 16 year old, who’s birthday we were celebrating, said the second we walked out of the door, “wow, he does not know how to read a room, why was he talking about drinking and drugs at my 16th dinner”.

The food and price was not worth the uncomfortable and wildly inappropriate experience we had. We will not ever return and we will not be recommending any one WITH CHILDREN attend...
