Rice noodle rolls are not particularly high on my list when it comes to yum cha foods, but they are a favourite for wifey. I am partial to a good congee though, so having a new shop that specialises in both of these food items seems to be a win-win combination. Enter Yat Tiu Rice Noodle in Sunnybank Hills, occupying the space between Ramen Danbo and Impressive Dumplings.
Despite opening after the introduction of dining out restrictions, this eatery has seen consistent queues and regular coverage on my insta feed. No doubt this is thanks to their authentic taste of traditional Cantonese cuisine.
Our order: Fish fillet congee, $9.80 BBQ pork & shallot rice noodle rolls, $8.80 Peking duck rice paper rolls, $10.80 Fried stick rice noodle rolls, $8.80 HK style curry fish balls, $4.80 complimentary lemon tea, normally $4.80
I ordered by phone before driving out to pick up the food, and it was ready within 20 minutes. This was at around 12:30pm though and I gather it’s usually busier (ie. longer wait times) in the morning. I was hoping to get some of sticky rice chicken but this was already sold out, so will have to get in earlier next time.
The curry fish balls were ok though not a compelling repeat order for me. The congee and rice paper rolls are the star attraction though and I enjoyed the flavours and textures of these items, and my favourite was the fried (bread) stick rice noodle rolls which go really well with the accompanying sauce.
On the down side I have to say that the rolls had cooled noticeably by the time I got home, and were sticking to each other, detracting from the eating experience. Unfortunately some foods do not translate super well to a takeaway format and this is one of them - you definitely need to eat whilst hot and fresh out of the kitchen to enjoy them at their peak. That’s no fault of the restaurant though, just a can’t-be-helped thing in the current environment. I heard that some people eat it in their car in the parking lot, so that's probably...

Every bite was a reminder of why simple, well, made dishes hit the soul. The congee was silky smooth and perfectly seasoned, just the right texture to warm your heart. The wonton noodle soup was light yet flavorful, with springy noodles and delicate, plump wontons that were absolutely spot on.
I also tried their signature rice noodle rolls, and wow they were fresh, silky, and paired perfectly with the sweet soy sauce. Even the siu mai, which you might expect to be ordinary, had great flavor and texture clearly made with care. The fried bread stick (youtiao) was crispy and not oily at all, a perfect companion for dipping into the congee.
To top it all off, I tried both the hot and cold Ovaltine drinks, and they were nostalgic, rich, and refreshing each in their own way.
Best of all? I left feeling satisfied but not heavy or bloated, which is rare when you enjoy so many dishes in one sitting.
Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic taste and great value in a cozy setting. I’ll...
Read moreTried the new menu once when dining in and it was good.
However, this time we decided to take away and it was a let down. Mainly service. We ordered a mix of noodles, rice noodle rolls, congee and tofu pudding to go.
We noticed the noodles and rice noodles rolls were all packed and ready to go. Waited about 15 minutes more and started noticing that the people who ordered after us (dine in) had started receiving their food. One table even had their takeaway ready! We went in and asked about our congee. Was rudely told that they were busy and that congee needed extra time. We were also mindful that they had no heating lamps/ proper heated storage for takeaway food so we were also aware our noodles and rolls were getting cold…. Decided to wait a bit more but still no sight of our congee. Went in to inform the counter staff instead but she told us to ask the same rude server behind. Again he said to wait. Not once was he apologetic neither did he chase the kitchen up for our order.
We eventually got our congee much later (at least 30 minutes or more later) and true enough, the noodles have cooled down quite a bit.
Also, tofu pudding turned watery when...
