EXPENSIVE, HORRENDOUS SERVICE (BLATANT RACISM) , DIRTY PLATES & CUPS. DO NOT WASTER YOUR MONEY OR TIME - go somewhere else. Front reception & service staff so rude upon arrival & throughout the whole time there. The Maitre'd basically rolled her eyes at everything. We were seated outside and immediately I see that the plates & cups were all dirty with CLUMPS OF DUST it. When we informed the Maitre'd (the plus size woman at the front desk with long hair) - instead of apologising, she just rolled her eyes & was rude towards us. The dirty cup was not replaced, we had to keep asking for the replacement. The food was terrible, the BBQ pork bun was cold inside and it was clear that it was an overnight bun that was reheated. Then no one brought any other food around in a trolley. A waiter came up and asked whether we wanted to order more dishes without giving us a menu. I then asked him for a menu. Even though the place was not that busy (not surprisingly), we waited for another 10 minutes and he still didn't bring us a menu. We got so fed up by that stage, we decided to leave (having only had 3 dishes). And I couldn't believe how expensive it was (over $20 for the 3 simple dishes) compare to any other Yum char we've ever had.
The worse thing is that during the whole time there, it was very clear that they were very racist - completely different behaviour and attitude towards Asian customers and Caucasian customers.
Like I said - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY -- there are many other places...
Read moreVery rude staff. The service was poor and lacking. We had asked for a bigger table because one of the people in our group was slightly of a larger build. Instead of giving us the bigger table, they just moved us to a dirty table with sauces and used napkins. They did not clean it so we had to clean it ourselves. Also the restaurant was not even full. In fact, it was almost empty at peak dinner hours so it wasn’t the issue of not having enough bigger tables.
Part of the issue is the lack of communication. These issues would have been forgivable had they had the decency to communicate and perhaps explain why. Why leave the table dirty? Why slam down our drinks and food?
It really is a shame. This establishment has fallen from grace. I have had fond memories here since its opening however today, at my family reunion, I am greatly disappointed.
I mean the entree came after the main dishes!!!! Since when was entree consumed after the mains????
And of course back to the table issue, when everything we ordered came, we could barely fit all the dishes on the table! They didn’t even give us bowls to eat out of so we used those little saucers instead. We had tried asking for it but I don’t think they understood.
Although, I suppose one positive thing about this experience was at least the food wasn’t bad. It’s the silver linings...
Read moreWe were delighted to find this Yum Char restaurant on the South side of town. Prior to this, there were no proper restaurants to enjoy a simple Yum Char session in the area. You either had to go into the Valley or Southbank which are both considerably far if you live on the South side. The menu had the ubiquitous steam Dumplings, deep fried spring rolls or calamari as well as your more exotic fare like chicken feet & tripe. All the dishes were fresh, well prepared, tasty and well priced. Service was quick. We have already been here for Yum Char on several occasions and have never been disappointed by the food. Although the staff are not the friendliest, they've never been rude. If you're looking for delicious Yum Char cuisine on the South side, we recommend giving this place a go. One of the big pluses for us is being able to drop in for a good meal anytime between 10am and 3pm without fearing that they've closed or you're left with cold tired looking leftovers. Our favourite dishes are the steam vegetables, carrot & taro cake, BBQ pork, and steam prawn dumplings. Parking can be a tad tricky at Westfield Carindale so time your entry wisely and avoid the peak times, like lunch time on...
