We had a dinner @ Bang Bang Byron tonight and the food was great. The waitress at our table was so attentive and helpful. As it was recommend by our hotel, we decided to spend our last night at the venue.
When we arrived we met the gentleman in green shirt who appeared to be a host to meet and greet customers but we were standing there like a lunatic with nobody greeting us or sitting us down but he would rather walked across us and greeted his friends first. I could hear him asking them whether they have made a booking at the restaurant or not and he walked through us back into the restaurant helping them check whether he would offer them a table. We were stunned as we have never been encountered with this kind of experience. At the end tho, he didn’t find any table for his friends and finally came to ask us whether we have any reservations.
The waitress came to take the drink order and we mentioned to her that we only need 3 glasses because one of our friends is not drinking. The same guy (the host) came back to our table with 4 glasses in his hand and another holding the ice bucket and wine stand. He looked at me like he would want me to move my phone away, so he could put down his stuff but he should have rather asked the guest “Excuse me! Would you mind to move the phone because I have to setup the wine stand,..” he asked one of our friends and made an assumption that she is not drinking tonight but he should have asked who is not drinking tonight.
At the end of the meal, I informed waitress to get the bill and would like to talk to the restaurant manager outside the restaurant. I explained the situation to the manager but there were a few things that she gave me a doubt whether she could take a feedback on board and any customers would not have to go through the similar experience.
She said Mr C was one of her best staff and she could completely trust him with the position. Mr C has been working with them for over a year. The manager said she disbelieved that Mr C would do this on Intension and she would speak out on behalf of him or anyone at the restaurant that we would not have any bad intentions to treat us that way. She was then moved her topic to the culture perspective as we were a group of Asian spending time in the venue and she said “it maybe because of the culture differences,…” I cut her out and said I grew up here and I would understand this is not a cultural difference matters as it rather goes into discrimination. She added as she’s from Brazil and many local in Byron Bay told her to F off or go back to your country. But that does not give the right for your staff to treat others like that, isn’t it? What do you think?
For the management, I would want to hear your...
Read moreFood and drinks were lovely but service and venue are not good for a group booking. I would recommend considering other restaurant options for following reasons:
booked for 19 guests ($3000 spend), one person was sick on morning of and we were still charged per head for them - no flexibility with the group booking policy even with unforeseen events. Also charged for a whole extra person, there has been communication with the restaurant regarding this and they have communicated they will refund the extra charge but not the ‘no show’.
On arrival, the restaurant was very quiet for weekend lunch service. Staff were not friendly (except one male waiter, short with brown hair) or welcoming, in fact we almost felt we were an inconvenience. This continued throughout our entire experience at lunch.
they could not accomodate or move tables together so that 18 people could sit together. We were sitting on two adjacent tables and separated. The reason they explained for this was that by putting two table together “it would interrupt service to other tables”. As mentioned above the restaurant was quiet and there were no other guest dining around us at all for the entirety of our booking.
We had provided dietary requests upon making group booking and were informed via email that the booking notes would be updated. Staff came to take our order and they did not appear to be aware we were having the banquet and had no prior knowledge of pre-notified dietary requirements.
Additionally, there was no indication that we would then be charged extra for food substitution for those with allergies. Ie charged extra $9 for roti for someone anaphylactic to sulphites and someone who is coeliac
I can appreciate extra charges for substitutions but the restaurant didn’t consider crediting us when we only ordered 9 desserts instead of 18. Of course ordinarily I would not have expected credit for this but I think some flexibility and consideration for the extra charges for dietary would go along way!
Fans above tables were not working and we were told they were broken. Summer in Byron bay is hot!
Overall, Bang Bang has fallen short of providing a smooth experience for a celebratory group booking and I would consider the multiple other dining...

We had a booking for 8 people, and unfortunately, the experience was far from pleasant. We weren’t given the option to choose our own dishes and were forced to stick to a fixed menu. The portions were incredibly small, which was disappointing given the price.
While the food itself was excellent, the service was absolutely terrible. The staff treated us poorly, to the point where one of the waiters was almost insulting a member of our group. They also messed up our order, bringing only 3 dishes instead of 4 (as it was meant to be 1 dish for every 2 people). The worst part? They tried to charge us extra for the missing dish until they finally realized their mistake. Even then, instead of an apology, the waitress sarcastically said, "This one is on us"—as if we weren’t already paying $80 per person.
Overall, while the food was good, the service was unacceptable, and the restaurant is overpriced and overrated. Definitely would not recommend.Disappointing Experience – Great Food, Horrible Service
