likeable and alive place with friendly staff. i absolutely loved their raw lemon cheesecake (one of the best raw cakes i've had and i've had MANY), but it was huge so naturally a bit more expensive. a smaller slice with a lower price would be much better. I ordered the cake with a pot of chai(which has a nice flavour and not too sweet) and the chai came before the cake. it was a hot day so they had the cakes in the freezer (why not in the fridge?) so they have to let the slice thaw a bit before serving. At one point I almost finished my pot of chai and I asked about my cake, but apparently they forgot to take it out of the freezer. I got it frozen and it thawed pretty quickly so it was all good and I enjoyed it, but I would've expected them to offer me a drink or something small on the house (I've worked as a waitress for 7 years and it's something I would definitely do) as I also had to wait quite long on the toasted sandwich I had before the cake. The toasted sandwich had a nice flavour, but since I'm gluten intolerant I had to pay $2 extra for glutenfree and when the sandwich came out I saw it's WAY smaller than the original one.. this was not mentioned and also not compensated. I know some cafe's where they mention it when the sandwich is going to be smaller and they compensate by putting something on the side. $18 for a really tiny sandwich is very overboard. I wasn't too mad about it as I liked the flavour of the pesto on it, but I couldn't really taste any of the vegan cheese. They could be a bit more generous with that. It's a nice cafe, but there are some things they could work on. I'm keen to try their acaï bowls, but apart from that I would only go for cake and a drink.
PS they have a 10% surcharge on sunday..
edit: changed the rating from 3 stars to 2. went back to try the acaï bowl and liked the flavour of the acaï base itself, but topping wise.. it was literally half a teaspoon of granola. for $16 it wouldn't hurt to put some more. my friend told them and they brought out the tiniest bit of extra granola for us to share, but the waitress didn't seem happy about it. when we finished another waitress took our bowls and she didn't ask how it was or anything. if they did I would happily tell them what I liked about it, but also give...
Read morei would give zero if i could! I've heard such good things about the food and I was very excited to eat the acai bowl. I went up and ordered around 09.45. When I sat saw customers which were behind me in the queue (which ordered the same as me) getting their food before me. So I decided to let the waitress know (which happened to be the "manager" named Luno) that it had been nearly half an hour for my bowl as I thought the ticket may have been misplaced.
She immediately got my bowl and sarcastically said "it has not been 30 mins its been 15 mins just so you know" I was taken back in which I replied "no" and she raised her voice in the middle of the restaurant which caught the attention of other customers, saying that painful customers like me need to be patient, which left me speechless and embarrassed because the whole restaurant was staring.
At this point I just wanted to eat my bowl but she became very argumentative and aggressive in which I told her I wanted to make a complaint and she replied leaning towards the table "Please do darling Im the manager" without giving the chance to reply she reached for the bowl and said "refund!" at this point I was too embarrassed to stay so I agreed to the refund. Which she kindly slammed on the table.
It is a shame this happened as I was looking forward to eat here. Coming from a waitress background I can understand customers can be difficult at times but I can't understand how a customer can be treated in this aggressive manner and such lack of customer service. For other customers to notice and tell me on the way out that it was out of order confirms that this is no way to...
Read moreI have never written a review in my life and am not one to complain. I love Combi and used to go to the one in Elwood often where the staff are so lovely. Since moving to the Byron region I have visited Combi a few times, it has a completely different feel. I have never had a pleasant experience with the staff. They are all very young and seem to have attitude problems.
Yesterday I am in a rush and pop in to order a smoothie at 4pm. There are lots of girls on shift, most of whom are closing the store in a laid back manner. There is a long line of smoothie tickets and one girl making them whilst chatting. After 15 minutes I ask a girl wiping the tables if she could maybe help as there are multiple blenders free, it is not busy and there are lots of tickets. She tells me that's not how it works bluntly so I say don't worry then and wait another ten minutes.
I actively won't be returning to Combi in Byron for a long time. I hope staff receive further training on customer service as quite frankly they are very rude and oblivious about the most crucial part of their job - being friendly and welcoming...
