We went as soon as they opened for the day, so no issue with waiting for a table. Upon entering I immediately noticed a patch of water on the ground, which normally wouldn't be an issue if it were not for the fact that there was no wet floor sign and it wasn't cleaned up for the entire hour or so we were there.
Orange Juice tasted interesting it was sour and sharp, somehow the worst orange juice I've had in a very long time. I don't normally get donburi, but I thought I'd try it was ok I guess certainly nothing about it wants me to come back here. My dad had the spicy ramen, he said the spicy wasn't really there (he enjoys spicy food and has a high tolerance). I tried the noodles and there was nothing spectacular about them either, if your entire party wants ramen please go up the street to Ramen-O.
The place calls itself and Izakaya, mind you I've never been to an authentic Izakaya when I've travelled to Japan, but this place certainly doesn't give off any vibes of being one. Whilst the printed out posters give it an attempt at being an Izakaya the white walls do not help its case, though I'm sure they have some limitations due to their location. There is one change I feel that they could definitely make. For some reason they are playing an Australian top 40s kind of playlist?????? If you're trying to give off Japanese vibes it's not working and clashes hard with the decor. Look into making a playlist with Japanese music or just take the Japanese top 40 that would set the vibes far better than what you're currently doing. Other foreign dining places in Canberra do that and it...
Read moreI visited Kushi Japanese restaurant last night and was quite disappointed with the experience. I ordered the Grilled Salmon from the menu, expecting it to be a decent meal portion based on the photo. My partner ordered the Grilled Salmon Bento Box and kindly offered to share hers if needed.
When my grilled salmon arrived, the portion was underwhelming – the slices were extremely thin and looked nothing like the image on the menu. At $17, it felt like poor value, especially when compared to the salmon in the bento box, which was about three times thicker and came with multiple sides for just $7 more.
When we mentioned this to a staff member while paying, they said they'd pass on the feedback, but there was no apology, offer of a replacement, or any gesture to acknowledge the disappointment. The restaurant only had two other patrons, and sadly, I can understand why.
Unfortunately, I won’t...
Read moreI see they changed the old Google maps location’s business name to “Kyoto Japanese” to hide the negative reviews. Here’s my review from only a few months ago for Kushi Izakaya:
They might benefit from paring down their large menu to more core dishes that they do well.
Unfortunately our experience was similar to others in that the food was poor quality for the price. My 60 degree egg clearly came from the fridge it was so cold (questionable food hygiene for a parcooked egg) and my husbands katsu was warm (not hot) and extremely dry so we suspect it was also reheated with a quick nip back in the fryer which overcooked it. The sauces and garnishes in the salmon don were nice, though the bowl awkwardly narrow and tall to eat out of.
For $60 to get two mediocre dishes and low fizz post mixed soft drink, it’s...
