Lava coffee cafe at Kingston is a must visit if you’re visiting Canberra. Kingston has become one of the trendiest neighbourhoods to stay, explore, dine & drink. Lava was voted top 3 by ‘her Canberra website’ that the coffee, staff and atmosphere are a vibe. And that the coffee was bloody delicious by one reviewer. Was it really bloody delicious? Well the iced latte was refreshing with a nice taste, bloody delicious is an overstatement. The size of the iced latte was quite small too, would have been nice if the glass was taller. My wife had a flat white and she said it was nice. It’s personal preference and comes down to what kind of coffee you like. Lava is quite busy during lunch both internally and externally dining area. There’s seating outside for people who prefer fresh air however it can be noisy, while indoor I found the space cosy and quieter.

Cafes in Canberra are, like Canberra itself, a public service. How else could people possibly get through their daily toil, serving the rest of us. The approach here is tops, and the people are all as serious and skilled as an old pollie. Some of the execution fall flat, though. The sweets are ok, without being remarkable. The bottled smoothie is 100pc from concentrate..which is fine most places but incongruous in this scene...and the coffee is well made but a blend so mild, it fades way into the background. The sandwiches look similarly pale, and no grain or fibrous options available. It's fine, but can be done better.

Edited review: Been back couple more times, coffee taste very milky instead of strong as I’ve requested for a double shot latte & for $6 it comes in a very tiny takeaway cup. Depending on which barista you get, the coffee made is not consistent. Great coffee & pastries. Staff are very friendly & beautiful clean cafe to relax in. Take away coffee are on the smaller size for the price you pay for..

MY friend and I had coffee and juice yesterday ( 11/3/2022 between 11:15-11:30 am. My friend hesitated to drink her juice and decided she will return the drink. This was because she observed that the worker was not wearing gloves and just before he prepared her juice was overheard complaining to another worker that he cut his hand while opening the bottle of soda which was part of juice ordered. When the drink was returned to the same co-worker, the response that my friend got are as follows: "We didn’t ask for your feedback " "We don’t use gloves for Food Safety.... it's dangerous......." "What’s the basis of your comment ?" ( about the cut) "My name is __ do you want the manager’s name?"

By the way, my coffee was tepid. No issue there. Sometimes quality of food /drinks is not consistent and I accept that. I come from the same industry, But you can absolutely control your attitude when faced with a...
