Gelatissimo Gungahlin — Restaurant in District of Gungahlin

We had terrible experience in Gelatissimo Gungahlin today. I went to the shop with my two kids and bought 3 cups of ice cream. My 5-year-old child was totally terrified when she found an insect in her ice cream cup – the insect’s body and wing seemed to be mixed into the ice cream, as my daughter had already been eating the ice cream before the insect was found. I showed the ice cream to the staff and requested to talk to the shop manager. I also requested to have a refund for this contaminated ice cream and get a new one. While the manager acknowledged that this was an insect in the ice cream, he was not very apologetic saying bluntly that it is unavoidable for flies to get into the ice cream as it is an open environment and that they can’t completely stop insects getting into the ice cream cabinet. The manager also said that he cannot give a refund, but can exchange for a new ice cream. After his explanation, I only wanted a refund and didn’t even want to have any more ice cream from this shop as I felt it was not hygienic at all. If a food shop believes it’s a normal to have flies in their food, then they are not following safe food standards. In the end, I got my refund for this cup of ice cream ($6.20) but I threw away the rest two cups of ice cream, I just didn’t feel safe to eat them. Originally, I booked a birthday cake from there, but I also cancelled it as I don’t want anymore “surprises”. Again, as a customer with young kids, the food hygiene is most important. Worst experience ever. Rudest customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Went as a family of 4. Each of us took turns to taste and order. However when it was my turn staff (who claimed her name is Sing and also the Manger on duty) refused to give me a second taste saying my “family is taking too long to order and other people are waiting. She said “I refuse to serve you” and discriminated against me. Walked away humiliated. When asked to escalate she said I can complain to the head office.
