We ventured to Batavia Corner, finding ourselves ensconced in an atmosphere that was as family-friendly as it was authentic. The dishes before us were a vivid representation of traditional Indonesian cuisine, composed with care and an eye for balance.
The first dish, a comprehensive Nasi Campur, boasted a mix of savory fried chicken, rich and crunchy tempeh, and a hearty helping of rice accompanied by a medley of sambal, egg, and fresh vegetables. The second plate, an aromatic Nasi Padang, highlighted tender beef rendang and a delicate green jackfruit curry, both carried by the fluffy bed of white rice. The robust flavors of the satay, glistening with peanut sauce, promised a flavor packed with each skewered bite, while the Mie Goreng rounded out our experience with its stir-fried noodles topped with a perfectly runny fried egg, adding a velvety richness to the dish.
From the warm welcome to the attentive service, the staff at Batavia Corner demonstrated an eagerness to ensure a delightful dining experience. The availability of EFTPOS, a sign of their modern amenities, was a convenience appreciated, though the option of splitting bills went untested. Each plate was a testament to value for money, reflecting the care in ingredient selection and preparation without an exorbitant price tag.
In sum, Batavia Corner served as a culinary portal, each dish a chapter of a story told with spice and rice. The lively atmosphere was as pleasing as the cuisine, making it a commendable choice for both family outings and those seeking to indulge in Indonesian...
Read moreI have seen this place thousand times but until today have not dined there. The food was fantastic and very good value.
We had the rissoles to start which sort of seemed like an SEA take on a chicko roll, it was delicious and I would eat again, but did seem westernised, so not quite matching with the rest of the meal, but to be fair, I ordered it.
We shared a nasi goreng seafood which was more then enough to share between us both.
On top of the rice we had the lamb curry/ tonseng kambing, which was my wifes favourite.
My favourite was the beef balado, which was claimed to be hot, and the topping was a little spicey, but we could easily handle it. The meat almost appeared burnt but in fact it was chargrilled to perfection and melted in your mouth. I have never had meat cooked quite like this but would highly recommend. It was not just a typical char grilled.
We also had some chicken satays and again, excellent, the homemade sauce was one of the best I have ever had, and I order satay skewers whenever its an option. Second only to some I had in bali a decade ago.
The service was friendly and helpful, and the food came out quick.
All of this plus two bottles of water for $56, very fair. Some poeple have said the servings are small, and some mains are, but at about $9-$12 for many of the dishes that is very fair compaired to other places. And being so cheap you can get a few different plates to try. We are big eaters, and one entree, 3 mains and a rice was enough for us.
If you like indonesian or SEA food I would...
Read moreI ordered takeaway for dinner via UberEats on Sunday, 22/11/20. We had the bakso malang, soto ayam ambengan soup and es cendol.
The food was very tasty. However, the portion was very disappointing.
Bakso malang - Did not receive the deep fried chicken, or dim sums. Only had 3 pieces of beef balls and 3 pieces of prawn balls. The portion of the vermicelli noodles shockingly came as just a pinch. It took one bite to finish the noodles. Considering we paid $17.40 for it, it wasn’t worth it.
Soto ayam ambengan - The portion of the vermicelli came as a pinch as well, and the amount of chicken slices I had could fit in 2 tablespoons. Paid $14.79 for it, and I finished everything in less than 3 bites.
This was the first time I ordered from this restaurant, so I’m not sure if the portion is meant to be that way. But if so, I definitely would not order takeaway from here again. I even splurged $9.00 on delivery because I was very excited to try it, but it was just unsatisfactory. Such a shame because the flavours were actually good, but the quantity just completely threw me off. It looked nothing like the pictures they showed on UberEats.
Portions might be different if you chose to dine in. Hopefully you’d get something enough to actually fill you with. I’ve had sotos and baksos from different restaurants and in Malaysia, and the quantity would be big...
