Is there a 6th star for this review? Wow…wow, wow! Started off with a Margarita and for an Asian inspired restaurant they make the BEST Mexican style Margarita I’ve ever had…and I’ve tried a few 😉. This Margarita kicks like a mule so rest assured, whilst $18 may sound like a lot for one drink, you really get bang for your buck! BUT WAIT…there’s more, for $36 you can order a 1litre jug of Margarita 😳. One was sufficient for me as I’m a lightweight with alcohol but excellent value if you had a couple of Margarita drinkers with you. My partner and I decided to just share a few small dishes, we got the Edamame beans in chilli and roasted peanuts, delicious…best I’ve had, followed by vegetable spring rolls, a huge serve of Ko Pham Bang…delicious and a mere $20 and honestly, I’m not joking…THE BEST dumplings ever. If there was such a thing for worlds best dumpling then I’m pretty sure this would win the prawn dumpling title. The Southern Thai Coconut Prawn Dumplings in coconut cream green nahm jim, roasted garlic oil, toasted coconut & coriander is out of this world. At first bite I was wide eyed proclaiming to have discovered the holy grail of prawn dumplings…then I found the coconut cream green nahm jim sauce…next level perfection, died and went to culinary heaven. Been dying to get here 🤪. The Margarita is still affecting me…wish I had the jug now I’m home! 5 stars and more; we will definitely be back. Oh and the staff were great. My only complaint is the chairs were uncomfortable and not befitting decor for such delicious food dining but after one of the kick A Margaritas, the chair soon becomes a...
Read moreI was really looking forward to visit this restaurant, it's been on my list for quite a while, and I am sad to say that it was a bit of a disappointment. The position is great, with magnificent views of Wallis Lake, but the food is quite ordinary. I tried a variety of dishes, and the best one was the seaweed salad. Delicious! The Takoyaki Dumplings were just ok, not housemade though, and the bonito flakes didn't have any taste, the predominant taste was the mayo. The Teriyaki Maki was nice but the chicken was a bit too dry. But the real disappointment was the Gangnam Style Prawn Bao that didn't stand to its definition of "tempura prawn with Korean spicy red sauce, wombok, shallot and pickled onion" that it is supposed to give you an explosion of flavour. Half of the ingredients mentioned weren't there, only the onion, and the prawns and sauce tasted a bit like they had been mixed with chilli jam sauce. No much flavour on the bun either. And to finish it off, the Malaysian Curry Laksa with hokkien noodles, squid, prawns and chicken was tasty but not the best we've ever tried. We asked if the hokkien noodles could be swapped and they told us we could have rice noodles instead. Well, it didn't happen. We couldn't find the chicken anywhere, and at there was some ingredient that looked like half a small potato but tasted like fish, that we still cannot figure out what it was. All in all, not the best quality food we've ever had, but at a quite expensive price. Maybe the chef had...
Read moreA big thumbs down to Spice Monkey.
For years we have been loyal customers often making large bookings.... however no longer will this be the case.
After notifying staff of an allergy issue and ordering food as usual, mid meal one of our group noticed that they had started to have an allergic reaction.
Shortly after we needed to make a hasty exit home to spend the next 4 hours throwing up dealing with all sorts of issues for about 12 hours immediately after the meal which can only be attributed to a full contamination......
I contacted Spice as soon as we got home to let them know that we had and issue.
The following day I contacted them again to talk about what had happened. Not once did they enquire to the condition of the individual who ate the contaminated food..... and was then informed that the owner had instructed staff that he was not interested in offering a refund as he was not prepared to loose the cost of one table because of one contaminated meal...... an attitude like that I think is disgusting.
As a local that has in the past made bookings of 40+ for banquets .... I have to ask... how on earth does a response like that even make sense......
Shame on you Spice Monkey Forster .... until now we held you in very high regards.....
We will be taking our bookings elsewhere from now on.
Take note... it appears Spice Monkeys policy on allergies is that they'll try and be safe but if you get sick or die it's just one of those...
